See You Again (Time Already Knows) - Chapter 70 - Part 1

Chapter 70 - I Can’t Pay Back This Money, And I Also Can’t Pay Back These Feelings. - Part 1

The rooftop of Yi Mao Real Estate was covered in a blanket of white. There was a thick layer of snow. After the snowfall ended, the sky was like a clear day. The sun casted a twilight glow atop their heads as it set in the background, painting the layer of snow in a warm golden color.

“So much snow!” Tim shouted, feeling fortunate. He looked at Yi Pei in gratitude, as if the snow was a gift that Yi Pei gave him.

“Thank you, President Yi Gege.” The wind had turned Tim’s cheeks red. He didn’t forget to politely ask, “May I make use of it now?”

“You’re welcome,” Yi Pei replied and generously said, “Since you’re using it, it’s all yours.”

Shi Jian couldn’t help smiling. Other than being affected by Tim’s joyfulness, she was also affected by Yi Pei’s words. She reached out and tightened Tim’s scarf calmly. Tim was a bit jumpy with excitement. He stepped on the crunchy snow and hurried her pitifully, “Darling, can you hurry it up a bit?”

Shi Jian placated him, “Okay.”

Tim and Yi Pei started building the snowman. Then he shouted towards her, “Jane, we might need your help.”

Shi Jian replied, “Alright.”

Her mood was like the white snow being shined on by sunlight: loose, soft, and melting without being aware of it. But snow melted into water, and there was nothing tangible left. Shi Jian thought of her relationship with Mr.Ye, and wondered if one day it would also dissolve into water.

The three of them built a snowman together. Shi Jian suspected that Yi Pei had never played in the snow before. Luckily, their ability to do the task was not bad, and the three of them made a fat snowman. It just didn’t have a nose. The rooftop of Yi Mao Real Estate had nothing that could be used as a nose for a snowman.

“Do you have an idea?” Yi Pei asked her, using the tone of voice for discussions.

Shi Jian shook her head, expressing that she couldn’t think of anything either. Actually, there was an idea. In the past, Ye Jiacheng and her had built a snowman in a villa in Hokkaido. At the time, Ye Jiacheng had simply ripped off a button from his coat for the snowman’s nose and eyes. It was too crappy of a solution, so Shi Jian didn’t say it aloud. The wind blew and made her colder. She tucked in her neck, and looked over the snowman: “I think…… it’s still pretty good without a nose.”

Yi Pei: “Really?”

Tim also said to reassure himself: “This is fine too. Then at night, it won’t freeze its nose off.”  When he finished, Tim sucked in a breath through his stuffy nose. His nose had already been frozen off.

“Haha,” Yi Pei chucked. He pulled out a handkerchief and handed it to Tim. Tim took it and wiped his nose. It was embarrassing to return it to Yi Pei, so he said, “I’ll return it next time.”

Yi Pei warmly nodded, “Anytime is fine.”

Afterwards, Tim took a photo with the snowman. They were about the same height. Yi Pei stood beside Tim, and Shi Jian was also in the photo. Yi Pei was wearing a full suit of black, and his skin was red from the cold. Shi Jian recalled that Yi Pei didn’t like the cold. Zhang Kai had also said that Yi Pei’s constitution did not do well in the cold. She immediately blamed herself for being too careless.

Shi Jian brought Tim to the Yang household. Tim not only could live a little more comfortably, he could also play with Nini. On the other hand, she didn’t need to bring Tim to work. Yi Pei and Zhang Kai didn’t mind, but that didn’t mean he didn’t distract them.

At night, Tim hand washed Yi Pei’s handkerchief, and used the blow dryer to dry it. Then, he folded it neatly and planned to return it to Yi Pei. Tim had a merit of doing things earnestly and meticulously, really taking after Madam Fang. She was more like Professor Shi in her lifestyle habits.

In the small living room on the second floor of the Yang household, Shi Jian was half laying down on the sofa. Her head was facing upwards. Beside her, Tim suddenly asked seriously: “Jane, are you feeling trapped by emotions?”

Shi Jian suddenly laughed. Tim’s Chinese vocabulary had advanced by leaps and bounds. He could even say a phrase like “feeling trapped by emotions”. Shi Jian looked at Tim with a small smile. She also really wanted to find someone to chat with, but she worried that no one would be able to help her with her troubles. And Tim was still so young. Yi Pei was so capable, but still had no way to give her that. Time had already changed everything. There was no way to right things that had been thrown into chaos.

Shi Jian softly sighed. There was a phase in Chinese that went “pent up emotions turned into illness”. Nearly a year had gone by already. Shi Jian sometimes thought she was fine now, but she had never been fine at all. It’s just that all of her pent up feelings had become a tumor in her heart. It wasn’t  like a common cold where there were distinct symptoms. As for whether her condition was good or bad, whether the tumor was malignant or benign, she didn’t know.

She looked so distressed that Tim had already said while looking at her: “Are you going to choose Jiacheng Gege or President Yi Gege?”

If it was really like that, it would indeed be very distressing. Tim recalled his hesitation between Abby and Cherry. But if he could only choose one, the other would be hurt, and he didn’t wish for them to be hurt. If he chose both, they would be mad at him and call him an even bigger scoundrel.

Tim also thought about his own troubles, and expressed his own experiences with Shi Jian.

Haha! It wasn’t the same kind of feeling. Shi Jian thought for a moment, then said using the same light tone used for chatting to ask Tim with a smile: “Hypothetically, what if big sis forgot you all of a sudden one day and didn’t love you anymore? She gets a new little brother and doesn’t like you anymore…… Tim, what would you do? Would you hate me?”

The children of the Shi family cried especially easily, as if they were naturally born to be extremely sensitive. She only needed to raise a hypothetical like this for Tim to think about it and immediately tear up. He asked her earnestly: “Why don’t you want me?”

“Because I forgot you. I can’t remember you anymore,” Shi Jian explained. Seeing that Tim’s eyes had reddened, she hurriedly laughed, “Tim, it’s only hypothetical.”

Tim wiped his tears, turned away his head, and expressed that he didn’t like these hypotheticals at all.

Shi Jian felt very sorry, and playfully shoved Tim. After a while, Tim replied to her question: “I think I probably wouldn’t hate you, but I wouldn’t be with you anymore.”

“Why?” Shi Jian asked. Strangely, her tears were about to flow out as well.

Tim looked at the floor and said after a sob: “Because I wouldn’t want to see your new little brother. I would be very upset. Jane, if you got a new little brother and forgot about me, I would be very upset, so I would be better off not being with you anymore.”

Shi Jian continued: “Tim, between me having a new little brother and not wanting you anymore, and me completely forgetting about you and not wanting you, which do you think would make you feel worse?”

Tim wasn’t willing to reply. After a long time, he quietly replied: “Forgetting about me. I can accept that you have a new little brother, but I can’t accept you forgetting about me.”

Yeah, being forgotten was worse than losing someone.

Shi Jian’s tears flowed out. Tim’s eyes were also red. He didn’t forget to turn and wipe her tears away. In the next second, it was as if the two of them could put their head in their hands and cry freely. Shi Jian felt that she and Tim could act as siblings in a romance movie. They didn’t even need the crew to supply them with fake tears.

Tim’s personality had always been pure and simple. The hypothetical question just now already made him feel melancholy. He seemed to be worried that she would really forget him. She had to guarantee that she wouldn’t.

Tim was only reassured after she repeated that she wouldn’t forget him three times.

Embarrassingly, Auntie and Uncle learned that the both of them had cried at this pointless hypothetical question and were dumbfounded. Uncle even said cruelly: “The ability of you siblings to cry so easily definitely wasn’t inherited from your mother…… Tim, quickly tell us, is your father also a crybaby?”

Tim shook his head: “NO!

The next day at work, before Yi Pei was there, Shi Jian put the handkerchief that Tim had her return inside the file folder for today. Then she put the folder on Yi Pei’s desk.

It was already afternoon break when Yi Pei came in for work. Passing by the outside office, he spotted a certain someone napping on a recliner chair. There was a blanket over her body, and sunbeams were gently falling over her, making her fair face clear and beautiful.

Yi Pei returned to his office. Shi Jian had already organized today’s tasks and put them on his desk. She was getting more and more proficient at being an assistant, so much so that she kept a boundary in their relationship that she would not cross. She really didn’t give him any chance at all. If he stepped forward a little, he would lose not only the opportunity to love her, but also lose a good assistant.

But how would the greed of humanity allow him to be satisfied with their current circumstances? Otherwise, why would the phrase “deluded with wishful thinking” exist?

Yi Pei opened the folder and saw a folded handkerchief inside. He couldn’t help but smile. He leaned back and closed the folder. There was something he didn’t know whether he should say or not.

Mayor Ye and Madam Ye had come to A-City a while ago. Mayor Ye had problems with his health and had to undergo a brain tumor surgery with only a 50% success rate. Zhang Kai had already visited him in Yi Pei’s place. He had also gone there himself today. The surgery was confirmed to be in the next month. They were just waiting for the most prestigious neurosurgeon that Ye Jiacheng had contacted from a foreign country to arrive.

This year, Yi Mao Real Estate had continuously received Mayor Ye’s support for their development in Qinglin City, contrary to how Mayor Ye treated his own son…… He was probably upset that Ye Jiacheng had started a real estate company.

There was frustration in his heart. Mayor Ye was indeed someone that separated public and private interests clearly, and a father that educated his son strictly.

“Dad, I know you’re angry at me,” Ye Jiacheng sat by the hospital bed, evenly coaxing him, “But the surgery is next month. Can you help the doctor out and lift your mood up?”

Father Ye released some anger, and said sincerely: “Jiacheng, why won’t you listen to my advice? Why do you insist on getting into real estate? You need to know……”

“Alright, I will follow your every word on these matters after the surgery.” Ye Jiacheng was compromising with every sentence he spoke, smiling and placating his father.

Father Ye shook his head. He understood his son’s character too well. One must cramp and pull a tendon before knowing what pain was!

Ye Jiacheng was helpless. He started paring an apple with a practiced hand. He wasn’t even really looking at it. Sure enough, as Mayor Ye had praised him in the past, paring an apple was one of Ye Jiacheng’s merits.

He had many merits, but on the contrary, being praised when he was small was one of Ye Jiacheng’s pet peeves. It seemed like his dad had always disapproved of his behaviors.

Ye Jiacheng felt that this might be because of a generation gap between them. But even with a large generation gap, it was all insignificant in the face of his father’s declining health. Father Ye had to undergo such a dangerous surgery. Ye Jiacheng was worried about it, of course. His mother was a cuscuta vine that wrapped around the trunk of a large tree. Her personality had always been delicate and she never took any initiative. There were a lot of things that he had to make the decisions on.

He had racked his brains for ideas. The success rate of the surgery was much too low, only fifty percent. It was like a coin flipping through the air. If it was not life, it was death. Ye Jiacheng didn’t even dare estimate an outcome on this probability. Compared to his unyielding and principled father, he was more concerned about his mother.
