See You Again (Time Already Knows) - Chapter 69 - Part 1

Chapter 69 - “He Is Jane’s Ex-Boyfriend.” “There’s Still Some Elsewhere. Let’s Go Together.” - Part 1

“Don’t look anymore, Shi Jian.” Yi Pei’s voice had an emotion that was difficult to conceal. Afterwards, he asked her quietly, “Why bother?”

Why bother? He was asking her, as well as himself.

Shi Jian was pressed against Yi Pei’s chest, faintly trembling against his shoulder. She  was silently sobbing, completely spacing out. She had walked until her road ended. If someone gave her hand a pull right now, maybe she would just follow after them.

Shi Jian followed Yi Pei to the building in the back. The old fashioned house had stairs that were worn with time, but there was no unpleasant smell. On the second floor, there was a faint sandalwood scent that she’d often noticed Yi Pei wearing. There was a floor lamp that was turned on in the second floor living room. She cried very embarrassingly. Yi Pei dimmed the lamp so that it was not blinding, and so that it was slightly less awkward. Shi Jian blew her nose into a napkin, and laughed self-mockingly, “Maybe I drank too much.”

“Ah……” Yi Pei put his palms together as if he was praying, and looked at the figure of the girl crying in front of him. What was he supposed to say?

She attracted him; it was as if his heart unconsciously turned towards her like she was the sun. The liveliness and vividness that he saw in her was what he wanted. It had unwittingly entered into his heart, and made him genuinely want to possess her, not because of her smile, but because of the tears hidden behind it. He originally thought Shi Jian was a beam of sunlight, but actually she was more like a flowing moon, possessing the beauty of the full moon and beautiful flowers. The person who was truly like sunlight was Ye Jiacheng. He had a dazzling aggressiveness. As for him, he was more like a person hurrying along the road in the night. Each person who hurried along all hoped that they were the only one the moon was shining for.

“If you can’t forget, then don’t forget,” Yi Pei spoke, “Just don’t burden yourself, Shi Jian.”

“……” Shi Jian raised her eyes and pursed her lips. No matter what, she still had to say, “President Yi, thank you.”

“Shi Jian, I feel like our relationship now…… You can call me by name.”

Shi Jian said nothing, mostly because she wasn’t used to it.

Yi Pei said firmly, “I only bring my friends here.”

This was Yi Pei’s first foray into relationships. He hadn’t expected to run into such a difficult situation. He wasn’t afraid of challenges; he was only afraid that they would be unhappy together. Yi Pei suddenly recalled the words his maternal grandfather told him when he was small. Luck that’s not yours, gains without reason, never go after something that wasn’t yours.

The brightly lit building in front of them could be seen through the glass screen. Shi Jian’s mood slowly got better. She took a look at this room’s decor and layout. It was old-fashioned, elaborate, and refined. It was unlike a place Yi Pei lived, and more like the chambers of the eldest daughter Yi.

Zhang Kai had said that Yi Pei occasionally came back and stayed here.

There was a painting hanging on the wall to her left. Shi Jian stopped to look at it for a while. Her gaze fell to the people in the painting. She couldn’t help but seem distracted. She carefully took in the details. Yi Pei followed her line of sight and also looked at the people in the painting. After a long time, he said, “The name of this piece is «Wife and Son».”

Shi Jian’s cheeks turned bright red. Luckily, Yi Pei didn’t see. He was facing the painting on the wall, and continued: “My father painted it.”

Tonight, Shi Jian learned a secret of Yi Pei’s, that his father was an artist.

It was autumn now; the temperature quickly got colder. The end of the year neared closer day by day. A lot of things took its course as time went along, and the days passed by easily. Shi Jian knitted a scarf and a pair of gloves in boredom. She was doing it herself, so naturally they looked a bit ugly. Every time Zhang Kai saw the gloves on her office desk, he couldn’t help but ask: “Where did you buy these from?”

Shi Jian said a bit proudly: “I knitted them myself.”

Zhang Kai clicked his tongue, “I really couldn’t tell. Who knew that our Assistant Shi is not only good at her work, but is also clever with her hands?”

Shi Jian didn’t acknowledge Zhang Kai, but replied, “Thank you for the praise.”

Zhang Kai scratched his nose. He was serious. Shi Jian was becoming more and more capable with her work abilities. If this went on for longer, he probably would have to give up his position of being the high level assistant. He was talking about this to A-Pei a few days ago. A-Pei didn’t comfort him. He even agreed with his words.

When Shi Jian was sending out emails, Emily sent over a short message, probably because she was specifically reminding her, “Next week is President Yi’s birthday. Don’t forget to get him a present.”

Emily was a considerate secretary. She got a small gift for Yi Pei’s birthday every year. Last year, Shi Jian was new to the office, and naturally did not prepare a gift. This year, she should get him a gift because of manners and their relationship. She just didn’t know what to get him. Shi Jian replied to Emily with a smiley face, and flipped through the calendar in front of her computer.

Yi Pei and Ye Jiacheng’s tempers were completely different, yet they had the same astrological sign.

Tim was on break. Like last time, he flew here early to accompany her. Lucily Tim came back early, otherwise he might not have a chance to do so anymore. There would be a huge snowstorm this year, worse than any in the past fifty years. She even remembered the last snowstorm they had. She was stuck at the airport and couldn’t board the plane. She even cried when she called her parents.

Shi Jian received a call from Professor Shi. They were just about to bring Tim to the airport. Then they told her that Tim would probably arrive at the A-City airport around 9 P.M. and reminded her to go pick him up, even though Tim expressed that he could take a taxi himself.

Shi Jian smiled. Professor Shi’s phone was already handed to Tim. Tim’s voice became clearer, and he spoke joyfully: “See you tonight, Jane.”

“See you tonight, Xiao Guang.”

——

In the VIP lounge in the London Airport, Tim hung up the phone, then made a surprised sound, “Oh!

The young man walking not far away was still tall as usual, with his long legs. Tim had a great memory, and of course could remember this man. This was the man who had pretended to be “fake daddy” on Valentine’s Day last time, Jiacheng Gege.

“Jiacheng Gege……” Tim called, “Hello, hello……”

Children all remembered the good things. The memory Ye Jiacheng left for Tim that night was joyful and wholesome, even though Tim had to stand by his sister’s side like a little soldier at the end. But Jane also told him that Jiacheng Gege was a very, very good man. When Tim finished calling out, he was a bit afraid that Jiacheng Gege had forgotten about him and hurriedly pointed at himself, as if he was using gestures to ask Ye Jiacheng: Jiacheng Gege, I’m Tim. Do you still remember me?

Ye Jiacheng had also spotted Tim, and his lip suddenly curled into a smile. He studied him. His height had increased by quite a bit. He was wearing a blue baseball jacket, sneakers, and a handsome cap. The eyes under the brim of his cap had become more and more like his sister’s.

Ye Jiacheng had come to England this time to personally contact a neurosurgeon, because his father had to undergo a surgery. The concrete details had been hammered out, and he was preparing to fly back home. Ye Jiacheng’s smile got especially cheerful when he looked at Tim unceasingly waving his hand. His mood was extraordinarily warm. Then, he walked over there.

Tim’s parents were standing behind him, their identities clear. Ye Jiacheng nodded towards them.

Tim looked up, then formally greeted, “Jiacheng Gege, hello.”

“Hello, Xiao Guang,” Ye Jiacheng nodded again, looking at Tim with a smiling face, just like the last time they met.

Had they encountered someone familiar? Professor Shi and Mrs.Fang were very curious. How did Tim know this handsome young man in front of them? They looked at their son and asked in Chinese: “Xiao Guang, you know this Gege?”

“Yeah,” Tim blinked his eyes excitedly. He didn’t know how to introduce him for a moment, so he spoke directly, “He is Jane’s ex-boyfriend.”

Cough cough! Professor Shi and Mrs.Fang looked at each other in dismay. Ye Jiacheng also pursed his lips, and nodded twice at Shi Jian’s parents.

“Hello,” Professor Shi extended his hand, “……We finally meet. I didn’t expect it to be here.”

Yes, he also hadn’t expected this. Ye Jiacheng returned the handshake with both hands, bent his waist slightly, and said politely and with etiquette, “Hello, Uncle.” Then, he turned towards Shi Jian’s mother, “Auntie, hello.”

He still met the “parents”, but he wasn’t the little fox’s boyfriend anymore.

To Professor Shi and Mrs. Fang, there wasn’t anything awkward about meeting like this. They only knew that their daughter previously had made a solemn vow wanting to marry this handsome man.

In their thinking, because they hadn’t met him last time, that was more of an indication that their daughter was being impulsive in marrying him. But, parents were all partial towards their children. Since they had met, Professor Shi still had to say some good things about his daughter: “Our daughter has always been a forthright person with a pure personality. She’s not had much experience in relationships. You are probably the first man she’s liked, so she had especially wanted to marry you…… Please excuse her.”

“Ah, children. They all have to experience a few relationships before they mature. They have to understand what they want, so you shouldn’t feel upset either. Our Shi Jian is fine right now. In other words, we have to thank you as well.”

Ye Jiacheng lowered his head. Professor Shi, on the contrary, became embarrassed. He really wasn’t trying to be harsh with his words. Did he express something wrong? Ai, would this ex-boyfriend blame him?

Why would he blame him? He finally learned why the little fox was a kind-hearted little fox. It was because her family all had kindness. Ye Jiacheng smiled at Professor Shi and blinked faintly, his eyelashes concealing his emotions.

“Uncle…… It is my lack of fortune,” Ye Jiacheng said.

Ye Jiacheng boarded the plane with Tim. The flight attendants hurriedly changed their seats. Ye Jiacheng and Tim sat in adjacent seats in the first class cabin. But Tim didn’t need him to take care of him at all. He was tired so he slept. When he was thirsty, he politely asked the flight attendant for a cup of water. When he was bored, he would also chat with him a little bit. Something that was very similar about Tim and the little fox was that they both liked to talk nonsense while chatting.

When they spoke about something they liked, their eyebrows raised as they looked towards the other person, very easily spreading their passion.

Ye Jiacheng was also a very good person to talk to. He could speak a few sentences about anything. No matter what topic Tim talked about, he could always give some input. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great. The flight attendants kept on reminding everyone to keep their seatbelts on and to not leave their seats. Tim looked at him with concern on his face: “Honestly, I’m a little worried.”

“It’ll be fine,” Ye Jiacheng said comfortingly and patted Tim’s head.

Tim was a bit upset.

“Will your big sister come pick you up?” Ye Jiacheng asked Tim. He was also a bit worried. He worried about what would happen at the airport.

Tim nodded, still gloomy as before.

Ye Jiacheng found a way to divert Tim’s attention. Tim’s eyebrows finally raised in delight, like the little fox’s eyes, twinkling and mesmerizing.

When Shi Jian went to pick Tim up, she bought a bag of Tim’s favorite sweet sauteed chestnuts from a dried fruits store by the road. It had started to snow in A-City, and the wind had icy particles in it. It was chilly when it blew into her face. She was really worried about the flight.

Shi Jian sat on a chair outside the entrance, occasionally paying attention to the airline information being broadcast. Her heart burned with anxiousness as she waited. She could only comfort herself. There wouldn’t be any plane accidents this year.
