See You Again (Time Already Knows) - Chapter 53

Chapter 53 - “Happy New Year.”

Sometimes fate had mysterious coincidences.

The same was that western Valentine’s Day occurred shortly after they met, the difference was that Mr.Ye had proposed to her on that night. With a freezing starry night overlooking them, Mr.Ye curled up with her in the car sweetly, as if the endless Milky Way romantically and majestically enveloped them. She’d said she hadn’t made any plans for marriage. Mr.Ye made her believe in him just this once, that he could bring her happiness.

Then Mr.Ye said: “I used to think that men proposing marriage were just empty promises, using frivolous lies to trick girls into marriages where they don’t gain anything. Shi Jian, I also used to not believe in marriage; I even rejected it. But strangely enough, people change. I sincerely want to get married, to be together with you.”

Mr.Ye also said: “Shi Jian, do you believe in fate? I am starting to believe in fate. The first time I saw you, I immediately felt that you are the one that I like, the one that I want, and the one that is right.”

……

Only, right now, was she not the one Mr.Ye liked, the one he wanted, nor the one that was right for him?

Shi Jian understood that the current Ye Jiacheng had no plans for marriage. Ye Jiacheng said he was in the Singleton’s Club, and didn’t lie to her, going as far as to clearly show her his trump card.

He had always been very frank, especially in relationships. She knew this.

Ye Jiacheng saved his bottom line, and left the choice to her. She also knew this.

She even knew that Ye Jiacheng merely hadn’t fallen in love with her. Mr.Ye said before that like and love were different. One could easily let go with like, but not with love. Love was when even if there was a fissure as large as the sky in their relationship, they would only think of ways to mend it, rather than letting go. Ye Jiacheng calmly said he wouldn’t marry her, which already expressed his stance. He would rather break up than change his stance.

What to do? She knew everything, yet could not make herself stop feeling upset. If only Ye Jiacheng wasn’t so frank. Shi Jian turned slightly, back facing Ye Jiacheng. It was too obvious that she was upset. She ruined the originally happy Valentine’s Day atmosphere. She didn’t want to blame him, only herself.

If only she hadn’t brought up her parents.

For a while, the two of them stayed silent.

Slowly, Shi Jian softly said: “Ye Jiacheng, I am actually also…… in the Singleton’s Club.” Shi Jian wanted to lie, just like how Ye Jiacheng had lied to her that they were a dual income no kids family. But in the next moment, Shi Jian had already laughed.

“Sorry, I’m just kidding.” Shi Jian laughed until her tears flowed out. Then, she explained, “I’m not in some Singleton’s Club.”

En. Ye Jiacheng lightly nodded.

Shi Jian collected her emotions and turned around. She’d never cautiously loved someone before and really wasn’t used to being pitiful. After a long while, she giggled: “Ye Jiacheng, actually, I also lied just now.”

Ye Jiacheng was so blunt with some things that it was very strange when she tried to be secretive.

“It’s that I want to get married later…… haha…… I lied. Actually, I really want to marry you. Not only marry, but also have babies…… I’ve already thought of the baby’s name: Diandian, as in a sky dotted full of stars.” Shi Jian continued. Saying her true feelings aloud seemed more hilarious than lies.

Thus, once she finished speaking, she cried as she laughed. She told herself to stop talking, stop talking! She would just dig herself into a hole if she kept going.

“Little fox.” Ye Jiacheng called her name after being silent for a while. Then he reached out his hands, probably wanting to hug her. Shi Jian hurriedly lowered her head, then put on her jacket and climbed out of bed.

The two looked at each other. The same Ye Jiacheng, the different Ye Jiacheng; the same Shi Jian, but, at the same time, the different Shi Jian.

At this moment, Shi Jian extremely loathed the thing known as time.

“Sorry.”

“Sorry.”

The two apologized at nearly the same time.

No one was willing to be like this, and no one knew that the sweet Valentine’s Day would end so disastrously. Just like now no one knew what would change with time, and what wouldn’t change.

“I’ll go back and sleep with Tim.” Shi Jian spoke again so that their relationship would not become awkward. She still found an easygoing reason, “Uh…… I’m afraid Tim will wake up and not be able to find me. He’s a little coward.”

Actually, Tim wasn’t a coward. Tonight, she was the one who was a coward.

“Alright,” Ye Jiacheng agreed. Afterwards, he walked her to the door. The corridor lights lit up his face clearly and brightly. It was still the same face she liked as before.

Shi Jian escaped. The more okay Ye Jiacheng was being with her, the more upset she felt.

Because the better he was, the more clearly he was expressing his apologies.

But what she wanted was never Ye Jiacheng’s apology, but his love.

Shi Jian only discovered that there was no starlight at all that night when she returned to Tim’s room. The thick fog outside the window darkened the city.

Tim returned. Shi Jian spent the next few days with Tim at the Yang household. She took two days off; Zhang Kai approved without even asking for a reason. She was still an intern right now, so she didn’t need to go to HR to take days off. She could just let Zhang Kai know directly; it was very convenient.

Only, Auntie had thought she’d still been living at the dorm recently.

Tim, the little brat, brought up a certain someone: “I already met my future Jiefu. He is a handsome and capable man. I decided that I like him.”

Luckily, Tim used English to say this. Auntie was not paying careful attention and did not understand. Shi Jian used ten bucks to buy Tim’s silence. Tim had the westerner child’s custom of having their own savings of money and had saved even more allowance than she had, so he did not cherish her ten yuan at all. But, Tim still helped her keep the secret.

Then, when they were alone, Tim asked her like an understanding little sweetheart: “Honey, you’re upset. Did Jiacheng-gege make you sad?”

“Not at all.” Shi Jian shook her head, “Don’t think nonsense.”

Tim didn’t believe her and held her hand. He expressed his thoughts in a childish manner: “I…… I also don’t like him anymore.”

“Really, he didn’t do anything,” Shi Jian emphasized as she pinched Tim’s cheek. Tim was so cute, it was hard to think that her past self would even have fights with him. After she and Ye Jiacheng got married, Tim had already grown into a mature young gentleman. He’d always liked Ye Jiacheng. Other than being his Jiefu, Ye Jiacheng was also his friend and idol. Because of Ye Jiacheng, Tim’s dream was also to be a remarkable architect.

Shi Jian explained a few more things to Tim. She wasn’t willing to have Tim hate Ye Jiacheng just because of this. It was also extremely unfair to the current Ye Jiacheng.

Tim understood what she was saying and kissed her cheek. Then, he gave her her New Year’s present early. She had Tim buy her a few albums. Tim bought them all for her, and had even wrapped them.

Shi Jian was pleasantly surprised. She’d even thought Tim had forgotten.

Shi Jian decided to give Tim a large red packet come New Year’s. Then she thought of Ye Jiacheng again. Every New Year’s, Ye Jiacheng had always given Tim a very substantial red packet. He wasn’t just good to her, he was good towards her whole family as well.

On the last day before the spring break, Shi Jian still went back to the Yi Mao general official. Originally, she’d planned not to since it was so close to the spring break. In the end, Zhang Kai called her last night and told her there were lots of the merchandise that Yi Mao Real Estate was giving out for the New Year, and had her come take some. If she couldn’t make it, he would find an opportunity to send it to her.

Everyone was busy at the end of the year; she didn’t need to inconvenience Zhang Kai with a delivery. Zhang Kai even said: “No trouble, no trouble, they’re all errands President Yi has to handle.”

Zhang Kai was so slick; why would Yi Pei handle these little errands?

Shi Jian returned to the office in high spirits to receive her New Year’s swag. Real estate was booming these few years. Yi Mao Real Estate had grown very rapidly. Naturally, the company benefits were also great. There was a large pile of New Year’s merchandise, and each employee also received a Yi Mao supermarket card worth a thousand yuan. Shi Jian felt that it was too obvious that she’d returned to the office specifically to receive her benefits, so she pulled on an act and worked for half a day.

She even showed her face in front of Yi Pei once.

Almost everyone had no interest in working on the last day before the New Year. Everyone chatted occasionally. When Shi Jian was chatting with Emily, she was called to Yi Pei’s office.

She was graduating next year. Yi Pei wanted to discuss her career plans. Her exam scores came out just then, so Yi Pei asked about her grades. Was Yi Pei worried that she would be accepted to B-University and break her contract? Absolutely no worries needed to be expended; she couldn’t attain those scores.

She didn’t check her scores. She bluntly said that she didn’t make it. Yi Pei smiled, and brought up a topic: “Last time a B-University professor called me, it was quite unexpected…… I even thought you would make it into B-University with no problem at all.”

Was Yi Pei ridiculing her? Could the professor not have explained things clearly last time? Because Yi Pei’s words meant: she was so amazing that she helped others cheat, how could she not make it into B-University……

So at the time, did Yi Pei hear about her providing exam answers or did he vouch for her integrity? In reality, she did not cheat at all. Even though she had some awkward things happen, regarding her integrity, Shi Jian still explained the situation for herself. The proof was her exam scores. They would prove that she definitely didn’t have the ability to provide answers for others.

She spoke the truth; Yi Pei had no reason not to believe her. Yi Pei chuckled after listening to the story of the unfortunate event that happened during the exam, then spoke to her about the formal contract: “Your contract terms are a bit different from the original contract. The company adjusted it somewhat according to personal ability. Zhang Kai will tell you the details.”

Shi Jian nodded. She was a bit curious. She was probably given a raise. If it was lowered, Yi Pei wouldn’t have mentioned it.

Indeed, Yi Pei was all smiles again, like a clever boss that was feeding her candy: “The conditions aren’t bad. I think you will be satisfied.”

Really? Shi Jian also cheered up. She didn’t know how much her salary would increase, but she knew Yi Pei wanted her to stay. The feeling of being approved was excellent. Shi Jian expressed her thanks first, “Thank you, President Yi.”

“No need to thank me. You deserve it.”

When Shi Jian walked out from Yi Pei’s office, the first thing she did was check her exam scores.

She nearly forgot about it. She thought she couldn’t make it, so she didn’t put too much thought into it. She didn’t expect Yi Pei to bring it up. Looking at her score, Shi Jian was pleasantly surprised to discover she had scored half of what she’d scored in the past! Shi Jian instinctively picked up her cellphone and was about to send Ye Jiacheng a text and tell him her exam score.

A big part of this grade was attained with his help.

Slowly, Shi Jian put down her cellphone. After Valentine’s Day, she and Ye Jiacheng hadn’t met in person. There had only been one phone call, and it was from Ye Jiacheng when she was sleeping in a daze.

It was only a call to ask her how she was doing. They said a few simple sentences to each other.

Ye Jiacheng seemed to be giving her time to think.

What he didn’t know was that she didn’t need to think at all. Actually, she just wanted to ask if he had caught a cold, because she heard that his voice was a little hoarse. Every time he caught a cold, his throat got inflamed easily.

Shi Jian also caught a cold on the night of New Year’s Eve. Uncle Yang Jiantao bought a whole box of firecrackers for her and Tim. She brought Tim and Nini out to play with them for a while. Her medicine stopped working then. She went back to her room to sleep, but the cellphone by her pillow rang nonstop. It was New Year’s Eve, so everyone was busy sending texts with their greetings and well wishes. She scrolled through them one by one. Other than her close friends and classmates, there was also one from Yi Pei’s work phone and Yi Mao Real Estate’s mass text. It was probably sent by Zhang Kai.

There was also one from Ye Jiacheng. A simple: “Happy New Year.”

Author’s Note:

Mr.Ye said that like and love are different. Like is when it’s easy to let go, but not with love. Love is when even though two people have a gaping chasm between them, they won’t give up finding a way to mend it. They won’t let go.

I suddenly thought of a question. Hypothetically, if Mr.Ye learned that he had oppressed the treasure that he loves this much, would he suffocate his heart until he doesn’t have one anymore?

Shi Jian’s story has been planned out all the way until the end. I’m really not writing on the fly. I don’t think I’ve dragged Ye, even though I also like how Ye makes an appearance handsomely every time. But that is only a part of Ye Jiacheng. It is not the whole. So as I said before, the closer we get to the end, the story and characters will become more clear, and the more we will understand everyone’s stances. In yesterday’s chapter, the Ye stans all separated into true and false fans ha.

Also, I have my reasons for saying it is a warm story. Of course there is a difference between warm stories and sweet stories and pampering stories.

  1. Thank you for the chapter😘. I love how realistic these characters are and how awesome they are. They remind me of my experience in society today. Also, the novel is 100% better than the drama or maybe its just me🙃
