See You Again (Time Already Knows) - Chapter 73 - Part 1
Chapter 73 - “I’m Very Familiar With The Courthouses In A-City. Which One Do You Prefer?” - Part 1
Six magnolia chandeliers hung from the ceiling inside the private room. The beams of light were elegant. The indoor heating caused a layer of white vapor to settle on the cold floor-to-ceiling windows. There was a table full of good food and wine. Ye Jiacheng had no appetite, and there were people trying to persuade him to drink. Ye Jiacheng picked up his glass and tapped it against the others’. The others drank first out of respect. He set down his own glass and found a reason, “My stomach hasn’t been feeling great lately.”
“No problem, no problem. Please do as you wish.”
“Apologies.”
Ye Jiacheng was still polite in front of Yi Qindong’s group of people. Evasion martial arts were his specialty. Ye Jiacheng nearly suspected himself to be “following their bad example”.
No wonder his father was so mad at him.
Only, there was something Ye Jiacheng didn’t understand. People would die for riches and sustenance. Everyone’s benefits were different. Even if he really helped Yi Qindong, it couldn’t be counted as “following their bad example”, right? Only…… Ye Jiacheng rapped his knuckles on the tabletop twice. He thought of an idiom. He could only describe it as “going with the flow”.
The door to the private room opened again. Yi Qindong came in with a bright smile. His right leg seemed a bit abnormal. Did he fall? Or was he beat up? Ye Jiacheng took in Yi Qindong’s state. Yi Qindong looked at him and said: “Everyone pour some wine for Young Master Ye!”
The people beside him were troubled. Ye Jiacheng held up his glass and slowly said: “No rush, my cup’s still full.”
Ye Jiacheng hadn’t planned to come tonight. Some flames had already flared up. Being a bystander, naturally, it was better for him to watch the fire from across the river. Only, someone had already stepped into the pit of flames that were the Yi family. Thus, he still had to come experience tonight’s banquet with the intent to murder a guest.
The Yi family became more and more chaotic. Without great sentiment or reason, Ye Jiacheng wouldn’t step into this flaming pit. His stance had always been very clear. Yi Qindong had no way to persuade him; he could only talk benefits.
Yes, it was human to seek benefits, but there were other things more important than benefits in this world. Such as Mayor Ye’s mood, such as…… Ye Jiacheng controlled his feelings, Yi Qindong just had to mention the little fox and that she helped Yi Pei play the piano for Forefather Yi. Yi Qindong didn’t need to say it aloud for him to understand. Once someone else reminded him of certain feelings, he indeed became more consciously aware of how much he cared.
If he helped Yi Qindong just because of benefits, benefits weren’t a priority with the way Shi Jian helped Yi Pei. The Yi family was currently a muddled pool of water. The little fox couldn’t not know this. Then, what was the reason for helping Yi Pei like that?
Yi Qindong continued his thoughtless gossip. Ye Jiacheng straightened his head and narrowed his eyes slightly, as if he was listening very intently.

Yi Qindong’s words had all sorts of things hidden in them. Ye Jiacheng still felt the fuming anger and resentment Yi Qindong had for the little fox. Yi Qindong was not a magnanimous man…… Of course, he wasn’t either. Ye Jiacheng lifted his head and returned the raised glass to Yi Qindong. Yi Qindong was pleasantly surprised and hurriedly tapped their glasses together.
Ye Jiacheng had a small smile on his face, along with an indescribable elegance.
There was a balcony outside of their private room. The air was stuffy, so Ye Jiacheng stood and went out to get some air. The balcony faced the parking lot below. There was a group of people walking in the distance. Ye Jiacheng followed them with his eyes.
It was the little fox and her family.
Gazing up at the bright moon, looking down at the beautiful person. His emotions rippled, and his whole body seemed to be tipsy. Ye Jiacheng stared with rapt attention. He couldn’t help but wish that he and the little fox never met, and then at the next turn of the street, he would meet her all over again. He would raise up his courage and even feign politeness as he asked for her number. Just like how she did it to him in the past.
It really was a fantasy. If they met once again, he definitely would treat her well. He would love her properly every day, and wouldn’t get mad at her at all.
Ye Jiacheng ended up asking, intentionally or otherwise, about Yi Qindong’s leg after the dinner ended. Yi Qindong mumbled for a bit, then said he had fallen down. He had fallen down? The interior of the restaurant was almost completely covered in soft carpet flooring, unless he had fallen in the men’s restroom.
Ye Jiacheng gave him a few simple “caring” remarks, and didn’t continue asking. He hoped he really did fall, and that it wasn’t what he was thinking.
Ye Jiacheng had always been a man with many experiences of twists and turns. He had many thoughts, and naturally, he also had many intentions. Ye Jiacheng couldn’t not have intentions. Ye Jiacheng wouldn’t say Yi Qindong was definitely successful. He would guess that he was seventy percent successful, including his recent activities. He could more or less understand. The bottom line couldn’t be too low, and the things he should protect against should be even higher.
Father Ye was about to undergo the surgery.
Ye Jiacheng spent his birthday in the hospital. Mama Ye made him birthday noodles in the hospital, with two halves of egg. Ye Jiacheng ate them and felt very satisfied. Mama Ye also looked at him with satisfaction. There was no animosity between a mother and son that lasted overnight. Last time she slapped her son, the one who was more upset over that was Mama Ye.
“How does it taste?” Mama Ye asked, “Do you still like it?”
Ye Jiacheng nodded. He really was a bit hungry, in addition to the fact that he hadn’t had his mother’s cooking in a while. He ate everything, including the broth.
Her son was so well behaved that Mama Ye took it upon herself to compromise: “Cheng Cheng, Mama won’t pressure you in the future anymore. If you want to marry later, then you should marry later.”
Ye Jiacheng was blank for a moment. He knew that his mother had more to say after this.
Indeed, Mama Ye sighed, then continued earnestly: “Not getting married is fine, but you need to be sincere when you date. Don’t carelessly disappoint other families’ ladies. You are my son. If other people hurt you, Mama would be upset. Those girls are also daughters of other families. If you hurt them, their parents will be upset too, no?”
Ye Jiacheng sat in front of his mother and listened like a small child. He wasn’t used to it, yet he could not defy it. His parents had probably discussed beforehand what his mother was saying to him right now. Strangely, Ye Jiacheng thought of the little fox’s parents. That day in the lobby in the London airport. He could feel their love for her even though the words they said were relaxed and light.
Faced with his mother’s kind and warm gaze, Ye Jiacheng set down his chopsticks and nodded: “I understand.”
Mama Ye was very happy and had an especially content smile on her face. Then she praised her son: “Good child.”
Ye Jiacheng pursed his lip and squeezed out a reassuring smile for his mother.
How nice. She just knew that her son was still a good child. He really wasn’t bad in the slightest. She remembered that Cheng Cheng had even been awarded the “exemplary citizen” award in elementary school. Mama Ye stood to clear the bowl and chopsticks. She had persuaded her husband that these things had to not be rushed, especially with their son’s protruding bone and renegade nature. But a nagging personality couldn’t be changed. Mama Ye watched her son eat the birthday noodles until there was nothing left. She couldn’t help it and said hopefully: “If you have a wife in the future, Mama will teach her the art of making longevity noodles, and she can make them for you in the future.”
“Alright, no problem.” Ye Jiacheng agreed. He thought of that image, and his eyes showed a cheery emotion.
But the most important thing right now was for his father’s surgery to go smoothly tomorrow.
The next day was the day of Father Ye’s surgery. Shi Jian sat in a meeting at Yi Mao’s conference room. It was above the thirtieth floor. Outside the floor-to-ceiling window was an azure blue sky. The clarity of the blue seemed to resemble water. Shi Jian sat behind Yi Pei. This was a high intensity meeting. When they were halfway in, Yi Pei finally called for a break.
She was originally going to speak today, but Yi Pei directly omitted her, so she had just been taking notes with her head lowered the entire time, existing minimally.
The meeting was paused and they had a break of fifteen minutes. There was free coffee and dim sum in the meeting room. Shi Jian had low blood sugar, so she unwrapped a piece of chocolate and took a small bite. Zhang Kai’s caring voice sounded by her ear: “Don’t eat chocolate if your tonsils are inflamed.”
Shi Jian set down the piece of chocolate. Yi Pei, who was in front of her, turned: “Zhang Kai, bring two cups of coffee and one cup of light tea.”
“Okay,” Zhang Kai promptly stood and left.
Yi Pei continued leaning back on his meeting chair. He hadn’t left his seat, and also hadn’t said anything. The marketing manager came over to deliver a document. He had originally wanted to say a few words, but smartly chose to simply set down the file and leave.
A cell phone on the table vibrated. It was Yi Pei’s personal cell phone. Yi Pei looked at the number first, then answered the call. He spoke two sentences: “Alright. I understand.” As well as “Thanks.”
“Shi Jian,” Yi Pei hung up the phone and called to the person next to him.
Shi Jian set down her pen and looked up. Yi Pei leaned back and quietly said: “……Mayor Ye’s surgery went very smoothly.”
“……Thank you.”
Shi Jian had been a bit nervous about Father Ye’s surgery today. Still, the head surgeon was changed to Doctor Wu. But for some reason, she still felt slightly anxious. Maybe it had something to do with her own state of mind. Yi Pei slowly sat up. At the same time, the cell phone in her pocket rang. Shi jain took out her phone and saw a text message from Ye Jiacheng: “Shi Jian, my father’s surgery went without a hitch.”
Shi Jian was startled for a moment. Ye Jiacheng had probably sent her this text because of her concern towards Mayor Ye last time. Shi Jian put away her cell phone without replying. She was afraid she would accidentally overstep into something she shouldn’t stick her nose in. In the sky, a passenger plane from A-City was flying by right then. Shi Jian gazed outside the window. After the rumble passed, her emotions unexpectedly calmed to the point where there were no ripples at all.
Shi Jian received a call after work. It was from Lai Qiao, who she hadn’t seen in a long time. Her tone was ecstatic: “Shi Jian, Zisong and I are about to get married!”
Is that so? This really was a sudden—— piece of good news.
“Did you know? Not only are we about to get married, Zisong is even willing to come live in A-City with me. Isn’t that great?” Lai Qiao shared her good news. Shi Jian walked towards the subway station and replied: “That’s amazing……”
Lai Qiao continued to speak, then also asked her a question: “What about you and Mr.Ye? Wait until Zisong and I return to A-City. We’ll have a meal together. I’ll bring Zisong, and you’ll bring Mr.Ye. What do you think?”
Shi Jian turned her head, not knowing what to say. She had even been worried for Lai Qiao in the past, but Lai Qiao and Cheng Zisong could be together with hard work. She was still happy inside, but her ability to feel happy slowly dwindled.
The sound of Cheng Zisong calling Lai Qiao’s name could be heard through the phone. Lai Qiao happily sighed a few words goodbye and hung up first. The corners of Shi Jian’s lip were slightly raised. Before she could even put her phone back in her purse, her body had been hauled downwards, and her purse was stolen.
