See You Again (Time Already Knows) - Chapter 72 - Part 1

Chapter 72 - Yi Pei Looked On Quietly, Still Unable To Find A Way To Express His Feelings. - Part 1

Hanging up the phone, Zhang Kai tried to calm himself down.

Ye Jiacheng had smashed the bracelet, and he had an unavoidable responsibility for it. Originally, the reason A-Pei had personally compensated for the bracelet was because he had brought his employee along. He had changed the reason with his words. Who knew that Ye Jiacheng would just smash such an expensive bracelet without a second thought? Sincerely speaking, he had been acting less and less professional as an assistant. No wonder A-Pei would make him give up his position for Shi Jian…… Thickening his face, Zhang Kai sent Ye Jiacheng another message explaining the situation. It was extremely shameless of him.

“Young Master Ye, I was just joking. Actually this bracelet……” Zhang Kai blabbered as he told him the real reason for compensation and said the important bit, “I hope Young Master Ye will be generous and not mention it to Shi Jian. Also, please don’t go looking for her to compensate for it. A good relationship is priceless, no? Thankyouthankyouthankyou.”

In this world, the most difficult people to deal with were the shameless people. When Ye Jiacheng received this information, he cracked a smile in disbelief. Ah…… He leaned against the wall of the hospital and basked in the sun for a little while. The cold wind blew into his eyes and made them dry and rough.

Last year’s winter was completely different from this year’s winter.

Ye Jiacheng gave Yi Biya a call and invited her to dinner. Over the phone, Yi Biya was silent for a while, then said: “ Jiacheng…… You’ve been too busy recently. Can we talk about us at a later time? After Uncle Ye’s surgery.”

Yi Biya had a cowardly personality, but she wasn’t stupid. On the contrary, she had a courage and perseverance that originated from who knew where.

This was something unexpected that she had that was similar to Shi Jian.

Ye Jiacheng had always thought that he dealt with breakups very beautifully, other than the time he broke up with Shi Jian. That was unbearable. Was he really unable to bear that Shi Jian’s deep feelings didn’t belong to him? No, he was like a gambler having fun at the table. Upon meeting the little fox, before the cards were made known, he had already worried that he would lose himself if he continued to play. To protect himself, he chose to promptly leave the table. In this tacky manner, he had even pretended to be carefree about it.

He understood himself. If they hadn’t broken up then, they might not have been able to break up at all, and the one who would be wounded was definitely himself. Unfortunately, he understood himself, but he didn’t understand his feelings. Weren’t feelings between men and women just like that? What differences were there? The reality was that there were differences, real differences. Even if in the future another little fox appeared, they wouldn’t be the same as the little fox who ate durian with him.

Ye Jiacheng still invited Yi Biya to dinner. Yi Biya, as always, accommodated him and wanted to choose a vegetarian restaurant. Ye Jiacheng picked a Japanese restaurant. He had a piece of information that this restaurant was one that Yi Biya liked, something that he seldom paid attention to.

The couch in the lobby was by the window. There were two bright paintings hanging on the walls with a very distinct zen style.

Ye Jiacheng drank two bottles of sake. Yi Biya looked at him with slightly red eyes. She asked: “Jiacheng, have I done something wrong?”

“No. You’re pretty great. I’m the one who’s doing poorly.”

Yi Biya lowered her head as if she knew he would say that.

“You heard what I said in the hospital, right?” Ye Jiacheng continued, “Those weren’t words said in anger.”

Yi Biya looked up at him again and lightly said: “I know everything……”

Ye Jiacheng leaned back on the tatami mats. The moon was shining faintly outside. The night sky seemed especially dark. He had dated a few times: Xi Hua, his high school girlfriend, Song Xiaojing…… the little fox, as well as Yi Biya. The relationship that he was the most engrossed in was with Shi Jian, and the one that was most difficult to be engrossed in was with Yi Biya. Of course, the problem wasn’t Yi Biya. It was because his goal was not pure, leading to their relationship becoming almost like a performance. He also didn’t know who he was putting the show on for.

Yi Biya cried. Ye Jiacheng’s hands were clasped together, his elbows on the table in front of him. He felt a bit apologetic. He had never thought he hurt anyone before. They were only dating; there was mutual consent. Each one brought happiness, interest, and new experiences to the other. So he had never boasted that he was some kind of good man. He also didn’t say he kept promises either, so much so that he rarely spoke the loving words that were pleasing to hear. He didn’t need to say too much anyways. They would love him regardless.

The one promise he made was to go see the snow in Berlin with the little fox. Unfortunately, he missed that appointment. Ultimately, he relied on the fact that he had good status to do whatever he pleased.

“……I love you, Jiacheng,” YI Biya spoke again with tears gathering in her eyes.

Ye Jiacheng pursed his lips, not knowing what to say. He didn’t want to hurt her, but still ended up hurting her. Only, he had heard these kinds of words before. Everytime he heard them, they were dull. They all said they loved him. What did they love about him? They probably only loved the good parts of him. Of course, they also hated him.

When breaking up, they hated his emotionlessness and resoluteness, as if he was a heartless person. Could it be that when they loved him, they hadn’t discovered this? Only, they couldn’t find any hope in him anymore and became disappointed. But he had always been this kind of person.

“I knew,” she looked him in the eye and repeated, “Jiacheng, I knew from the beginning what kind of person you are. You are the only one I love.”

……

Shi Jian was feeling wrong the past few days. She knew what was going on, but was more worried about herself. She booked an appointment with a therapist, and it turned out it was worse than she’d thought.

“Out of anyone I’ve ever met, you are the patient that understands mental health the most, Ms.Shi. You say that you’ve experienced falling ill from this before, but it’s not in your medical history……”

“Every person that suffers from depression hopes to recover from it by themselves. But with your condition, Ms.Shi, I recommend you take some medication to treat it.”

“If you think your social circle is making your illness worse, and your parents are not in the country, would you think about also going out of the country? Self care is very important, but a person’s ability to bear weight is like a balloon. In the beginning, we all want to deal with it ourselves, but if the reason for your depression is never removed, self care is only an escape mechanism. It will only make the illness more stubborn.”

“You felt fine before not because you have recovered, but because you understand this illness. You are more proficient at dealing with it than other patients. Simply put, you have been repressing your illness, as well as your feelings.”

……

When Shi Jian left the therapist office, she probably had been scared by the terrible things the therapist said. She didn’t even have any suicidal thoughts, so how could she have a serious illness?

After the first snow was a clear day. The sun was bright as usual on Saturday, but the temperature was too low. The remaining snowflakes on the windowsills had turned into ice. Snow could melt into water, but could also freeze into ice. Shi Jian sat blankly in her room. She was by herself and didn’t want to speak or do anything. There were three polite knocks coming from the outside of her door. Tim walked in and asked her in a discussing manner: “Jane, can you chat with me?”

Shi Jian looked at Tim. The children of the Shi family seemed to really like chatting. She also used to be like this…… Mr.Ye had even used to joke that she and Tim were a pair of gossips. Shi Jian put her agitated emotions away. Since Ye Jiacheng didn’t allow her to compensate for the bracelet, she just wouldn’t pay for it. She didn’t have to overthink this.

“You haven’t paid any attention to me at all today,” Tim said with narrowed eyes.

“Sorry……” Shi Jian put a smile on her face, “What are we chatting about?”

Tim: “Let’s chat about……”

Tim wanted to recommend a boyfriend to her. There was no problem with introducing a boyfriend to her, but the other was only sixteen years old. Could that really work? Tim even emphasized: “Barton is already sixteen.”

Barton was a friend Tim met while taking roller skating classes in London. The two were considered good friends, and he was an idol that Tim admired. Knowing that Barton wanted to find a Chinese girlfriend, Tim thought of her. So after the two of them had finished chatting online, Tim immediately ran to ask her.

“Thank you, Tim,” Shi Jian changed her tone and said apologetically, “……But I really think Barton’s a bit young.”

Tim sighed, as if he knew she was going to decline. Shi Jian put her hands on Tim’s shoulders and asked him seriously: “Tim, did you have some kind of intention?”

“No……” Tim’s confidence was reduced by the question. He honestly said, “Jane, I hope you can come to London with me, like how we said before.”

So it was this…… So he thought of an idea to introduce her to a boyfriend in London? Shi Jian wanted to laugh, but couldn’t. If she thought about it, it was her who had sent Tim the messenger pigeon. She didn’t want to go study in England. Other than staying to work her internship at Yi Mao Real Estate, she had even more reason to stay because she knew what she wanted in her heart.

She used to be extremely firm that she wouldn’t go. Only, with the things she had recently gone through, when the things she believed, the things she was certain of, had all been changed, she also became less certain.

“Tim, let me think about it,” Shi Jian replied.

Tim was elated, as if she had already made a decision: “Great!”

Shi Jian pinched Tim’s nose. On the other hand, it wasn’t good for her to continue working at Yi Mao anymore. After Ye Jiacheng and Yi Biya get married, Ye Jiacheng would also be considered half in the Yi family. She could accept all this, but accepting was one thing, and finding something for herself was another. Human hearts were all made of flesh. She couldn’t forget her memories, so she was better off staying further away from Ye Jiacheng.

For some reason, because of that one report on the Gelan City Project, she had become tangled with the Yi family. On Sundays, she even had to go to the Yi household and play piano for Forefather Yi.

After his surgery, Forefather Yi’s health wasn’t the same as before. It was sometimes good and sometimes bad. Occasionally, he became absentminded. Such as when she played the piano, Forefather Yi would call her “Little Jun” in a daze. Yi Pei’s mother was called Yi Bijun. Sometimes, Forefather Yi would be like a helpless elderly person who had wisdom about everything, He would hesitantly ask her: “……Ms.Shi, do you think I can trust A-Pei?”

Shi Jian helped work for Yi Pei, but she didn’t dare speak too many good words about him. Forefather Yi couldn’t be unaware of this. Only, she was an outsider who clung to Yi Pei.

“Little Jun doesn’t trust me, she’s mad at me……” Forefather Yi was peeved, “So, why should I believe in her child?”

Shi Jian went blank, then replied: “If Ms.Yi doesn’t trust you, why would she leave Yi Pei by your side?”

Forefather Yi snorted: “You are one of Yi Pei’s people, of course you would speak for him.”

See, she shouldn’t have said too many good things about him.

The piano Shi Jian played at the Yi household was an old white one in Forefather Yi’s study, not the original newly bought grand piano in the living room. This piano probably belonged to the eldest daughter Yi. It had been around a long time; the black and white keys were slightly scuffed, and the tone was a bit melancholy.

When Shi Jian came out of Forefather Yi’s study, Yi Pei was sitting in the living room outside. He smiled at her for a moment, as if wanting to ask how she felt today. Coincidentally, the Yi family was about to start lunch. Yi Biya, Yi Qindong, and other members of the Yi family were all present. Madam Guo said to Yi Biya in a slightly loud voice: “Little Ya, remember to bring Jiacheng home for lunch when you have time.”

“Let’s wait until he’s free,” Yi Biya quietly promised and replied to her mother: “He’s very busy right now……”

Madam Guo was worried again: “Your older brother can help him with the company! Even though Jiacheng is in charge of the company, your older brother is also a majority shareholder. In the future, we will be family after all……”

Shi Jian had heard from Zhang Kai that Ye Jiacheng had the right to operate Ye Mao Real Estate independently. No wonder Madam Guo said it like this. But…… with this mother in law and older brother in the future, would Ye Jiacheng be driven insane with that personality of his?

Shi Jian tried her best to avoid listening to the Yi family’s conversation, but the person whose gaze made her extremely uncomfortable was Yi Qindong.

Shi Jian got ready to say her goodbyes. Madam Guo politely left her a portion of food, speaking in her usual not cold, yet not dull voice. Why would she leave food for her sincerely? It was alright if she just didn’t hate her.

Shi Jian also declined her politely. At the same time, Yi Pei, who was nearby, stood up and came over.

“Ms.Shi, let’s eat together. The more the merrier.” The enthusiastic one was Yi Qindong, who had even pulled out a chair for her, “It’s rare for Yi Pei to be here for lunch as well.”

“Young Master Yi, there’s really no need,” Shi Jian firmly said. Yi Pei had a suit jacket in his arms and had already walked to her side. He said to the Yi family, “We’ll eat outside.”

Yi Qindong dropped the subject.

When Yi Pei spoke like this, Shi Jian also felt a little bit blank. Yi Pei said to her directly: “Let’s go, Shi Jian.”

Shi Jian followed Yi Pei out of the Yi residence. She had thought Yi Pei would stay and eat with the Yi family…… Then she remembered that today was Sunday, which was Yi Pei’s…… birthday.
