See You Again (Time Already Knows) - Chapter 66

Chapter 66 - If Possible, I Hope One Day You Will Paint «Wife And Children».

“Shi Jian, get in.” Yi Pei’s voice was aloof, as if it was an order and a request. He used a tough attitude to make her get in the car.

Emotions had turned into a quagmire. Quickly leaving it had always been the best way to deal with it. Shi Jian turned and looked at Yi Pei inside the car. He had a grave expression and his eyes bore deep. He looked at her like he was on the edge of anger.

Unexpectedly, Shi Jian was especially thankful for Yi Pei at this moment. People would take a wrong step in life, and relationships would be disappointed. In this world there were too many bystanders who threw stones at people who were already down. If only someone could extend a helping hand in a crucial moment and pull her up.

Regardless of whether the ending was good or bad, the heart would still be grateful. Moreover, she had always reaped what she sowed and never blamed another.

Reap what one sowed and not blame others. Ye Jiacheng was also thinking of this phrase. He was the one who had suggested breaking up. The one who voluntarily gave up on their relationship was him. Moreover, he had also suggested the little fox find a man better than him. He had also previously planned to confidently walk forward in their own respective directions.

From when they let go until now, the little fox had always appeared well. It was he who made people feel too nauseous. Clearly he had already decided to break free and walk away, but he still greedily wished that the little fox would continue to love him. So between having an accident and leaving the hospital, he even wondered whether she would worry and whether she would visit him.

Shi Jian didn’t visit. She didn’t even call. In that period of time, did he really not blame her? He did. He was suffering, so naturally his heart blamed her. Thus, when he spotted her, he immediately got out of the car.

The little fox had always been well. She looked calm every time he saw her after they broke up. It was as Zhang Kai said; she had walked away completely. It was him who was dallying and wanted to still mingle. He couldn’t put away his pride yet wouldn’t move his legs. He even wished that she would throw herself into his arms each time she came back.

How nauseating. The one who didn’t want her was him, but he still blamed her for not coming back. He had made her cry, but thought that she didn’t cry enough for him. Just a moment ago, she calmly asked whether he was with Yi Biya now, and he still blamed her for being more confident and free than he was, that she understood how to live freely better than he did.

So when he said those words about him and Yi Biya being together, he had wanted her to suffer with him.

Luckily, the little fox had gotten away and was unaffected by him. Ye Jiacheng watched Shi Jian get into Yi Pei’s car. He lowered his head, pursed his lip, and watched Yi Pei’s car speed forward into the distance.

Respectfully escorting the departure.

He’d made a mistake. He was probably wrong about his own feelings. Only, it was a pity that it was already too late. Good thing one could always adapt and make the best of their mistakes. It wasn’t frightening to make mistakes; the most frightening thing was when one couldn’t afford to make them.

He’d made a mistake, yet he hoped the other could still forgive him. Affecting himself would also affect the other.

Indeed, it was selfish, disgusting, and abominable.

That night, Ye Jiacheng invited Yi Biya to a dinner and formally asked to date her. Once he said those words, he originally thought that Yi Biya would take time to consider it, but unexpectedly, she immediately said yes.

“Feelings are selfish things. Even though I feel very sorry, I still want to give myself a chance.” Yi Biya looked at him, her delicate eyes sparkling faintly, “Jiacheng, we can give each other a chance. Perhaps we’ll be better off.”

That’s right. Perhaps they would be better off. The little fox wasn’t the unique person in the world that was the perfect match for him.

The unique and unrivalled person never existed anyway. Most people were only bewitched by love at first sight. People’s hearts had always been easily changed. Who couldn’t get over losing someone?

People who lived obsessively only did so because there weren’t better people in front of them. If there was a better person, they could receive a better love from them. After finding a partner, who would miss them? There would only be disdain.

To the little fox, wasn’t Yi Pei just like this? Alright, Ye Jiacheng could admit that Yi Pei was a better man than he was. What did Zhang Kai say? Yi Pei could give up his engagement with the Zhao family for Shi Jian. If he were Yi Pei, he probably wouldn’t have been able to do that.

There was a slight chill in the autumnal night of A-City. The night sky was misty, as if it was shrouded with a layer of muslin. Shi Jian followed Yi Pei to a dinner at Zhuang Yuan, the restaurant Yi Pei had a date with Zhao Wenwen in a while ago.

Yi Pei was the host and had invited an Uncle Lin from his maternal grandmother’s side to a meal. This Uncle Lin was already a descendant of Yi Pei’s maternal grandmother. Their family had settled in Singapore when they were young. They had recently come back to visit family. Since they were family, they gathered together.

Actually, their relationship had already been distant. Getting closer was just pretending. This Uncle Lin had never seen Yi Pei’s mother, his little sister. He caringly asked Yi Pei: “How has my little sister been lately?”

Yi Pei replied: “My mother has been staying in Hong Kong. Her health has been much better than it used to.”

“Oh oh oh. Then that’s good, that’s good.”

Most of the conversation during the meal was just idle chat. There was not much sincere concern. After the dinner ended, Yi Pei sent someone to escort Uncle Lin back to his hotel to rest. He took care of everything, big or small, appropriately and with dignity.

Shi Jian had freeloaded off Yi Pei for a meal. Yi Pei had shown consideration for her mood, but she was uneasy. She didn’t have anything to hide from Yi Pei now. Moreover, her mood wasn’t really terrible. A person’s heart would gradually harden.

When Uncle Lin got in his car, he shook Yi Pei’s hand with sorrow, saying that he had to go to Hong Kong to see his sister. Unexpectedly, the considerate and thoughtful Yi Pei said with etiquette: “I’m afraid that’s inconvenient. Mother likes the quiet.”

Uncle Lin felt a little embarrassed, and smiled a little at Shi Jian before he left. This meeting was finally ending with a multitude of warm and sorrowful goodbyes. Shi Jian was standing behind Yi Pei. Yi Pei turned back to her: “Sorry for making you come with me.”

Shi Jian raised her lip: “Shouldn’t I be the one thanking you? I got a free meal out of it.”

The words were spoken lightly. Some things weren’t as difficult as one imagined them to be.

Shi Jian thought about the mistaken phone call she made on last year’s New Year’s Eve. Yi Pei had said he would be spending the New Year in Hong Kong. At the time she thought it was a bit strange. It turned out that the eldest daughter of the Yi family was living in Hong Kong.

The two of them came out of Zhuang Yuan Restaurant. Shi Jian quietly walked besides Yi Pei. When he had brought up his mother’s condition just now, it was like a son protecting his mother.

It seemed to really be like that. There had been no news about the eldest daughter of the Yi family for many years, probably because Yi Pei was meticulously suppressing the information. In this world, it was mostly mothers protecting their sons, but there were also strong sons taking their mothers under their wing so that they wouldn’t be hurt by rumors and slander.

Until the very end, no outsiders knew who, exactly, Yi Pei’s father was.

Outside of Zhuang Yuan was a privately owned road. Tall and thin streetlamps were shrouded within European stained glass frames in a retro red yellow color. Yi Pei suddenly suggested: “Shi Jian, you should find more things to learn, like hobbies and such.”

Shi Jian looked up. Yi Pei said this seriously, but she knew what he meant.

Find more things to do to spread her attention out. It indeed was a good suggestion. When Shi Jian was just about to reply, Yi Pei smiled for a moment and said: “Outside of work.”

Shi Jian felt elated. She recently had been looking for things to do, something that she could calm down and work on quietly, like bad calligraphy or painting. She said to Yi Pei: “I have. I’ve recently been painting.”

“Is that so?” Yi Pei suddenly said, “Then you can ask me for guidance.”

Shi Jian: “……” She remembered now. Other than being an entrepreneur, Yi Pei was also an oil painter!

Yi Pei saw her go blank and thought she didn’t believe him: “My painting isn’t bad. I’m telling the truth.”

She didn’t not believe him. She only felt…… She said: “I know, but what I’m learning isn’t oil painting.” She was just playing with her paint.

“You know I do oil painting?” Yi Pei was surprised and asked. Immediately, he understood and chuckled easily.

Shi Jian also smiled. Yeah, she knew. Zhao Yilin had written in her book: “Besides being an outstanding businessman, he is also an oil painter who focused on the ego. Mr.Yi’s painting style is intense and exquisite, his composition focuses on symmetry and balance, and his technique is elaborate. I once had the honor to view his work. At that time, I was shocked……”

“Is my painting that good?” Yi Pei didn’t really believe her praise. Shi Jian honestly replied, “Actually, I haven’t seen President Yi’s work before.”

Yi Pei smiled, looking ahead and thinking about this himself. He was never good at painting people before. If he could, he hoped that he could paint «Wife and Son» one day. Thus, people are all selfish. If he wasn’t selfish, he wouldn’t have stopped and told her to get in the car.

The man who used to have nothing going on still stiffly forced himself into this tangle of emotions. He couldn’t even deceive himself by saying there was no plan.

Snore!

The next day at work, Shi Jian discovered that Zhao Yilin’s office desk had already been cleared. It appeared that she’d been…… sent back to her original department. Shi Jian couldn’t help but think too much about it and asked Zhang Kai.

That’s right. He was the one who arranged it. Zhang Kai replied to Shi Jian: “Shi Jian, this has nothing to do with you. It’s just that the general office needs a united heart. If we could only keep one of you between you and Zhao Yilin, don’t even mention that President Yi would choose you, I would also—— choose—— you!”

Paired with the words “also choose you”, Zhang Kai raised his index finger and jabbed it in time at her direction. His eyebrows also leaped up with each word.

Zhang Kai was acting exaggeratedly. Shi Jian’s eyebrow also leaped up. Zhao Yilin and herself had some differences, and they only got more intense after her birthday, but she didn’t feel too strongly about Zhao Yilin, so much so that she still wanted peace between them. Only, peace needed both sides to cooperate, and it was only her who wanted peace. Zhao Yilin even thought she was acting as a person that was always nice to everyone and had no interest. Zhang Kai had arranged for Zhao Yilin to go back to her original department; he definitely knew that the two of them didn’t click because only one of them stayed. Shi Jian ought to express her thanks to Zhang Kai.

“What are you thanking me for.” Zhang Kai was afraid Shi Jian would think too much of it and specifically said, “Shi Jian, don’t undervalue yourself. You produce more work value than Zhao Yilin does, of course we would keep you.”

“How did I undervalue myself?” Shi Jian lightly snorted, “I have a lot of confidence. In addition, I am pretty capable. Your vision is only ordinary.”

Zhang Kai: “Ok……”

Shi Jian left the office. Zhang Kai had a smile on his face. Shi Jian had indeed healed from her emotional wounds. Ye Jiacheng had such strong destructive power, but he still admired Ye Jiacheng a little bit.

That day when they went out for Shi Jian’s birthday, he had run into Ye Jiacheng at the bar. He was well aware of some things. He couldn’t help but say some unpleasant words aloud, and Ye Jiacheng had listened politely. He was human; he talked about the quality of the wine as they drank, and how happy he was when having fun. Being a master at emotions, Ye Jiacheng could also be considered a person that had character.

Zhang Kai had read a few romance novels. Ye Jiacheng’s behavior was clearly of someone that wanted to get back with their ex. Most men were miserable wretches and did not treasure things that they easily obtained. Even if A-Pei didn’t like Shi Jian, being Shi Jian’s friend, Zhang Kai would still suggest to Ye Jiacheng that if he didn’t miss her, then he shouldn’t continue bothering his family’s Shi Jian……

Right now, Zhang Kai watched Shi Jian’s mood recover and felt happy for her, and happy for himself.

Had she really recovered?

Shi Jian didn’t even know her current emotional state. Yi Pei suggested that she learn some more things, and spread out her attention. She originally had wanted to chill and learn some painting, but she had discovered that painting didn’t suit her after trying it out for a few days. What was she painting for? After pondering over it, she realized that she should be doing boxing instead.

Huff, huff, left hook, right hook. She didn’t have enough fun learning at the gym. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a boxing gym in the vicinity, but there was a taekwondo class. It was held every Thursday. After two weeks, Shi Jian could already do a spin kick with perfect posture. She was only lacking a little strength.

She needed anger! Aggressiveness! Ruthlessness! With a “crack”, Shi Jian dashingly kicked a board in half. Back in the changing room, Shi Jian discovered that she had five missed calls.

They were all from Yi Pei’s work number. Was it Zhang Kai calling or Yi Pei?

She had a bad premonition. Her temples throbbed. Shi Jian called him back; it was Zhang Kai who answered. She asked, “Zhang Kai, what’s going on?”

Zhang Kai told her with a hushed voice: “Forefather Yi has been sent to the hospital. He’s currently in the emergency room. The situation is a bit…… dangerous.”

Shi Jian fell silent, not saying anything first.

Zhang Kai told her to not hang up and instructed: “Shi Jian, wait a moment, I will hand the phone to President Yi.” After a while, the cellphone was in Yi Pei’s hands. Shi Jian patiently waited. On the other side, Yi Pei took the phone and walked a bit of distance, as if he was looking for a place without people.

After half a minute, Yi Pei’s voice came from the speaker and said a single sentence: “Shi Jian, will my grandfather be fine this time?

Yi Pei asked very directly. This was his first time asking her about his family’s life. He believed her so he specifically asked her? Shi Jian was standing inside the changing room, her brain thinking quickly. She couldn’t recall for a moment.

She thought hard, but still couldn’t remember. The more she got anxious, the more she went blank. So sorry…… Yi Pei faintly said: “No problem, Shi Jian.”

“President Yi, Forefather Yi will be fine!” She had an impression now. Shi Jian blurted out and forcefully guaranteed, “President Yi, believe me. Forefather Yi will definitely be unscathed this time, because…… I know everything.”

“Thank you, Shi Jian.” Yi Pei seemed to smile, then thanked her with his usual calm tone of voice. Only, a faint voice and a calm voice were still different.

Hanging up the phone, Shi Jian leaned against the lockers against the wall, covered in sweat.

Fortunately, Forefather Yi’s condition was as she said. He had averted disaster. Yi Pei accompanied him in the hospital. When Shi Jian went over to deliver documents, she bought a bouquet of flowers in passing. Forefather Yi was lying on the hospital bed. The color of his skin was not bad, and he looked like he hadn’t undergone a surgery at all.

Beside the bed, Yi Biya was paring a yellow pear with her head lowered. The curl of peel tumbled downwards from between her fingers. When she was finished, Yi Biya looked up and held the pear out to her with expectation. Shi Jian hesitated for a moment, then decided to accept it: “Thanks.”

Yi Biya couldn’t not be aware of some things.

Shi Jian had bought a bouquet of calla lilies. Forefather Yi unexpectedly looked at the flowers and said in pleasant surprise: “Miss Shi, thank you…… Calla lilies are my favorite flowers.”

“I’m very happy to have bought the flowers you like.” Shi Jian smiled gently, “Forefather Yi, please recuperate well.”

“Thanks. I don’t know why, but I especially like you.” Forefather Yi smiled the whole time and said after thinking, “Miss Shi, I am released from the hospital next week. Afterwards, I have a banquet to hold at home. Could I have you play some piano?”

Forefather Yi’s voice dropped off. Nearby, Yi Biya also looked over at them. Shi Jian looked up slightly and replied to Forefather Yi’s smiling eyes: “……Alright. I am very honored.”
