See You Again (Time Already Knows) - Chapter 57

Chapter 57 - Tomorrow Is Another Day!

Tomorrow is another day!

Shi Jian set down the pink notebook. This sentence was extracted by her when she was twenty years old as a motto to encourage herself through life. She was still young at the time, and hadn’t yet encountered too many obstacles or hardships. She’d felt that her life was dark after doing badly on an exam, and her emotions dropped into a canyon. But her happiness would be quickly brought back by a tasty meal.

Continuing to be happy and carefreely living through her days.

How wonderful. Shi Jian envied her past self, and felt that it was not necessary for her to go back in time. Even though she had returned to the past, life still continued moving forward.

On a whim, Shi Jian picked up her pencil, and wrote down this English sentence again. Tomorrow is another day, tomorrow will be better…… Will tomorrow really be better? Maybe because she had already had a very good “future”, she couldn’t imagine how she would be in a future without Ye Jiacheng.

But she still improved.

She used to not dare think about this question at all. Now, she would allow herself to think about it, but not too much. Because if she thought too much, she would start crying.

Shi Jian quietly wrote at her desk. Her mother softly knocked on the door and came in. Shi Jian turned and smiled towards her mother. Her maternal grandmother had two daughters, her mother, Fangrou, and her auntie, Fangya. But the only one whose temperament was like her name was Auntie.1 Her mother looked gentle and beautiful, but her temperament was the epitome of someone who was competitive and capable. When she was young, she took a position as a teaching assistant and had a congenial relationship with the handsome professor. In the middle of an off and on relationship, she went abroad to further her education. When she returned, the two were an older unmarried pair of people, so they smoothly agreed to continue to be together. It could be counted as a relationship that lasted through sustained effort.

“Jian-er.” Madam Fang sat across from her with a solemn attitude and was looking to speak with her.

Shi Jian set down her pencil and got ready to listen, more or less guessing what mother wanted to say to her.

Madam Fang and Professor Shi both wished that she would go abroad. She didn’t even make it into B-University this time, so they felt even more strongly that she should finish school abroad.

Shi Jian already had no more reason to refuse, but she still decided to not go with them, even though she hated to part with them as well as Tim.

Her decision was firm. Mother sighed, as if she’d anticipated this.

To make Madam Fang worry less, Shi Jian guaranteed: “Mama, I can decide my own life already.”

When she said this, Madam Fang didn’t continue forcing her.

“Jian-er, Mama feels that in this year we’ve been apart, you’ve changed too much.” Madam Fang watched her, ruefully saying, “Truly, it’s very obvious. It feels like you suddenly grew up, and acquired your own thoughts and decision-making. Your father and I even discussed this a few days ago. Being parents, we are very happy on one hand, but also sorry at the same time. We’ve been too selfish all these years and we missed out on your growth. Sorry, Jian-er.”

Shi Jian smiled. She’d changed so much because she had ten more years of memories.

“What’s there to be sorry about?” Shi Jian said lightly, “If you really felt sorry for me, then you should spend more time with Tim. Don’t miss out on his growth too.” When she finished speaking, she grinned brightly, revealing her teeth.

Madam Fang nodded.

“One more thing,” Shi Jian looked up and blinked.

Madam Fang looked at her with a small smile: “What is it?”

“Mama, I love you.” Shi Jian said, then leaned forward and hugged Madam Fang’s waist, like how a child threw themselves into their mother’s arms. She’d been in a terrible mood the past few days and was afraid of people finding out. When she was with her family, she often had a cheerful face. Right now, she felt more relaxed and only wanted to stay in her mother’s embrace, fleeing from the sadness.

She used English to express her love.

She used to express her feelings shyly. Since she was older, she expressed them more naturally. Because she had soon been about to become a mother, she knew that mothers didn’t have it easy.

“Thank you, darling,” Madam Fang smiled especially happily. Then, just like how she treated Tim, Madam Fang kissed her forehead and said: “We all love you.”

From the Spring Festival until now, Shi Jian had lived in the Yang household. Her parents were staying for an especially long time this time. There was still a week left before they had to fly back to England. Actually, they used to have a nice house in A-City. Unfortunately, they sold it when they went abroad. Afterwards, A-City’s housing prices grew even more expensive than foreign property. Professor Shi had felt regret over this before. Because her parents didn’t have a house in the country, Mr.Ye had even suggested to buy them one as a token of filial piety, but it was refused by her whole family. The housing prices in A-City were very expensive at the time, and they wouldn’t be there very often, so it simply wasn’t worth it. Even if the daughter’s husband made a lot of money, he couldn’t just spend it like that willy-nilly.

The housing prices in A-City really would increase exponentially in the future. Whichever real estate developer that could grab on to this opportunity within the next few years would definitely make a good sum of money. So, based on Ye Jiacheng’s capabilities and relationships, Ye Mao Real Estate might be the same as Yi Mao Real Estate, becoming the leading enterprises in the industry.

Mother Madam Fang also lived at the Yang household this time, but her father Professor Shi had a conflicting temperament with Uncle Yang Jiantao, so he decided to stay in a hotel alone. Professor Shi was so high maintenance that they all left him alone. Not even Tim was willing to stay at the hotel with him. He stayed at the Yang household and played with Nini and herself everyday. These days, she just ate, drank, and slept. Regarding her emotional state, they were still unclear of what was going on, and did not say anything about it.

The one who knew the most was Tim, and he had been successfully bribed by Shi Jian.

She replied to Yi Pei’s email, agreeing to stay and work hard at Yi Mao Real Estate. The scenery at the highest point made people moved. The real reason she decided to stay at Yi Mao was only because she wanted to go a new direction in her life.

She not only lost Ye Jiacheng, but she also lost her life.

Returning back to the past, her biggest goal was just to find Ye Jiacheng, then make him fall quickly in love with her. She wove a nice net hoping Ye Jiacheng would obediently fall into it, but he escaped, and now she was the one trapped in it.

She lost the most important thing in her life in an instant and became incredibly lost. This was a very terrible situation. Without direction and without cadence, even the most basic vitality slowly disappeared.

With nothing to raise her spirits, everything felt pointless. Anything was fine, and everything was about the same. Every night before bed was spent thinking the day was finally over, but when she woke up, the next day was just the previous day repeated.

And she didn’t have to go to work.

She ended her internship at Yi Mao early, only saying that she would return after her graduation.

She also finished writing her headache-inducing graduation thesis. Her teacher gave her very high marks, but it wasn’t worth being happy about…… Shi Jian knew that her current state was almost a depression.

When she lost Diandian, she had been depressed for a while. But at that time, Mr.Ye was there to bring her out of it. Now, she didn’t have Mr.Ye anymore.

Shi Jian took up running. Every day, she ran and then went to bed after she finished. She watched the most comedic movies. They made her laugh her lungs out. She played video games with Tim. Her personality became more and more like a child. She even went to the karaoke bar by herself, going hysterically crazy.

Only, she didn’t want to travel.

She and Mr.Ye went to too many places. She simply couldn’t think of any place that the two of them hadn’t been to.

She lost her fight against time terribly. For the rest, she still had to face this depression like a soldier would. She knew better than anyone how scary depression was. She couldn’t let it destroy her. No matter how terrible she had felt, her past self still had Mr.Ye. Now, she didn’t even know what she would have left if her life was ruined by a serious illness again.

So she definitely had to prevail over it.

Everyday, she strictly forced her vitality and happiness up. She was cruel to herself, and the potential that bursted out of her in the end surprised even herself.

Just to find something to do, she even looked through the diary that she’d kept in the past. The past Shi Jian really was a very simple girl. She’d even written down the 3 “major tasks” that she wanted to do in the year 200X.

She seemed to have not completed these tasks.

Shi Jian planned to complete these three major tasks now. Actually, this was a very amusing game. The “her” from ten years ago wrote down these dreams in her diary, and she would complete them ten years later. Coming back to this felt like she was encountering the “her” from ten years ago.

The first major task was to clear all levels of the video game «Strange Sky». Good god, this was too difficult. Shi Jian was a bit afraid now. When she was in her twenties, she was addicted to playing video games and often played so much that she forgot about her studies. But she never finished playing the games where she had to clear levels. How could she clear them now?

Regardless, Shi Jian found back her skills from all those years ago. Actually, the current “her” hadn’t played video games in just a few months. Once she got online, her good friends from the game all came looking for her and asked where she’d been the past few months.

She had an unwell feeling.

The second major task was to watch a Prince Charming’s concert. This was easy. Shi Jian checked online. There was a Prince Charming coming to A-City for his world tour this month.

But there were no more tickets left.

Shi Jian saw the concert’s sponsors. Surprisingly, the Yi Mao Conglomerate was there. She couldn’t help it and called Zhang Kai. Unexpectedly, Zhang Kai was able to get her tickets. She requested an ordinary ticket and refused the VIP ticket Zhang Kai was planning to give her.

“I didn’t expect you to be someone who chased after superstars,” Zhang Kai said.

“That’s right,” she beamed, “I’ve liked him for many years now.”

Zhang Kai argued, “It’s only been a few years since he debuted.”

Shi Jian continued smiling.

Then, the third major task was to confess her love to the dress shirt boy.

But who was the dress shirt boy? Shi Jian wished she could go inside her diary. She really couldn’t recall who he was. Luckily, since she had written it down, a faint memory returned to her. The dress shirt boy was a boy she’d seen when she was studying for her B-University entrance exam in the library, who’d even saved her seat for her…… Shi Jian facepalmed. She was ashamed at seeing what she’d written as a young lady.

Why didn’t she confess at the time? Was she too scared or did she forget to?

Over here, Ye Jiacheng had already been President Ye for a while. He was busting around every day. When he was driving and didn’t want to go back to his apartment, he thought of a friend he had that he hadn’t contacted in a while.

He called Gao Yanfei and asked him to play ball as well as drink. Gao Yanfei refused on the reason of having to play ball.

In the past, it was always Gao Yanfei who came looking for him, and he was the one who found a reason to not go. Recently, Gao Yanfei had a big ego, and had all kinds of reasons to not meet with him. The more he was like this, the more Ye Jiacheng understood: he just broke up, but Gao Yanfei was about to start his attack.

Best friends becoming like this really was too pointless.

The two of them sat drinking in a small bar that they used to often go to. Ye Jiacheng slouched lazily and Gao Yanfei was on his phone with his head lowered, sending messages unceasingly.

The color of Ye Jiacheng’s face was a bit ugly. He looked away and hid the hurt expression on his face.

Gao Yanfei didn’t know about Ye Jiacheng’s unsightly face, but his confidence had been down recently. But since they met up with each other, Gao Yanfei decided to say what was on his mind. He wasn’t a person who gathered secrets behind his friends’ backs, and moreover, wasn’t Ye Jiacheng a generous man?

“These days the little fox and I have been talking quite a bit……” Gao Yanfei honestly told him, keeping that important phrase Ye Jiacheng said last time in mind: exes were like clouds passing by.

As expected, Ye Jiacheng was calm. Only his eyelids lifted up aloofly: “Is that so?”

Gao Yanfei felt proud, but still spoke modestly: “I guess so.”

“Ok……” Ye Jiacheng drawled, “How did you two…… get familiar?”

Ye Jiacheng’s voice did not reveal any emotion.

“Recently, the little fox has enjoyed playing video games. I’m teaching her how to clear levels,” Gao Yanfei said.

Ye Jiacheng said nothing, only lightly pulling back the corner of his lip.

Gao Yanfei still wanted to probe out what Ye Jiacheng was thinking. He put on a strong face and asked: “Um…… I think that I have a chance…… It doesn’t matter to you, right?”

Shi Jian’s mother’s name is 方柔 (Fang Rou) 柔 means “gentle”. Shi Jian’s auntie's name is 方雅 (Fang Ya) 雅 means “elegant”. (This is also the same Ya character in Yi Biya’s name, although they are unrelated.) 方 (Fang) means “square” or “honest”. Siblings will usually have a common character in their names.
