See You Again (Time Already Knows) - Chapter 23

Chapter 23 - Oh, She Was Here To Seduce Him Again

The cobalt carved window was opened only a sliver before the brisk wind immediately blew in from the outside. After letting out half a breath, Yi Pei shut the window—— “Bang!”

Then, he leaned against the window pane with his head lowered. He rotated the black cellphone with his hand twice in boredom.

Tonight’s match was still in the first half, and he already felt it was tedious. Drinking too much of the strongest wine would still cause the flavor to fade.

Inside, it was still lively.

Someone was greeting him. He raised his wine glass with a smile in return. There were a few new shopping mall upstarts at Jia Shi Platinum tonight. Everyone sat in a circle chatting freely: what the current best projects were, how the economic situation would be next year, what notable actions the newly appointed region secretary would take…… In the last two months, two get-rich-quick businessmen had also arrived, talking about important matters with the same casual and high spirited tone. But they hadn’t come back in a long time. Where were they? Probably uneasy about the sudden fracture of the flow of money. It was clearly only for a month.

In the years of economic transformation, tales of millionaires were like a bubble. A single breath could create a large string of bubbles that pop once they were touched.

The only one who wasn’t affected was Jia Shi Platinum. No matter what the situation was like outside, the inside would never lack in a dazzling luxurious dreamland, along with the fantasy of spending money extravagantly. New people would naturally replace the old ones who left. People came and went. They didn’t lack business partners. There only needed profit to be made, and what difference did who you were making it with have?

He didn’t have much interest today, and he was just about to leave early. The person he originally was supposed to notify was the chauffeur, but in the end, he followed his heart’s sudden inclination. He sent the text to Shi Jian.

She probably wanted to scold her boss for having no humanity and making her come outside in the cold.

But so what if that happens? She originally came here to give him work to do, and what could she do if he made her come here? He even…… had wanted to give her a lot of money. It was her who didn’t want it.

Did she regret not accepting it?

She probably rejoiced. She really didn’t take it.

If she had accepted it, then what would he do?

He’d have given it.

If she had spent it all?

Continue to give more.

Then, for how long?

Yi Pei eyes drooped slightly. He glanced at Shi Jian’s reply, “Yes, President Yi.” It was four words long; even if he continued looking there wouldn’t be an extra word that showed up. At Jia Shi Platinum, everyday there would be men throwing huge amounts of money at the women here. His Xiao Jiujiu1, Yi Qindong, had recently been coming every day regardless of the weather to give money and flattery to gain the favor of a pianist on the first floor called He Xin. It appeared to be an innate tendency: men spent money on women and felt happy. Only, he didn’t expect himself to have this kind of tendency as well, which surprised him.

When he was very little, the matron of the Yi family, his nominal maternal grandmother, Madam Guo, invited those noble madams to come play mahjong at their house. At that time, one of those wealthy madams reminisced using her thin voice: “Those men don’t know, the more they pamper the ladies on the outside, the more they spend money on them, the more harmful it will be to them2!”

These words were interesting, as he rarely understood people. He remembered them to this day.

But that madam still didn’t understand men. Men mostly just liked to enjoy the present, unlike women,  who worried about their future. Using money maintained appearances and relationships. It had a huge impact.

Yi Pei looked up slightly, softly forcing out a sigh. It’d been half an hour already, Shi Jian was probably almost here.

……

She arrived at Jia Shi Platinum.

Before Shi Jian got ready to exit the car, she didn’t forget to ask the driver for an invoice. Taxis couldn’t stop directly outside Jia Shi Platinum’s front door, only at the curbside nearby. The taxi driver was somewhat unwilling to give her an invoice, and even looked at the Jia Shi Platinum building across the street. He laughed a bit improperly, probably guessing that she worked there. Guessing was fine, but he even lowly asked her bluntly: “The price tags inside are high, right? You probably earn a lot of money.”

Fucking hell! Shi Jian stifled an angry sound, and pulled the invoice into her hands before anything else. She flew out of the car, and before she shut the door, she poked her head inside and said: “Wouldn’t you know whether the price tags are high or not if you just went in for a night?”

The driver choked: “……”

Shi Jian rapidly shot another sentence at him: “Are you going or not? Hurry up and earn more money to support your wife. If you don’t have money, don’t groundlessly prattle!”

Old men these days just liked to bully young women! Shi Jian was satisfied, and slammed the door shut so hard that the car jolted. She walked across the street to Jia Shi Platinum, and estimated the time since she’d last waited outside Jia Shi Platinum for Yi Pei. Nearly two months had passed already.

Jia Shi Platinum was currently a renowned establishment, but would be acquired by a more modern and standard entertainment brand after a few years, and would be renamed “Fleeting Years”. As for the price tags inside, hehe, Yi Pei would know, right?

He seemed to really like this place.

Shi Jian entered. She said she was looking for President Yi, Yi Mao Real Estate’s President Yi, then registered her name. A handsome attendant on the first floor courteously escorted her to the third floor.

As the elevator door opened, she was hit with a gust of warm air. Then, an even more handsome attendant replaced the previous one and brought her across the soft and uniquely carpeted floor, stopping before a vermillion colored door.

The attendant pushed the door open and went in as she waited outside. He was to notify Yi Pei first.

Immediately, Shi Jian put away her calm and reserved expression and looked to her left and right. The three-dimensional fresco on the wall was not bad. It was lifelike and vibrant. She admired it with her head raised. Her ears were a bit itchy again, so she reached out to scratch it. Then, the handsome attendant returned and let her know that she could enter.

Ye Jiacheng’s face spoiled Shi Jian into judging people by their looks. She smiled and nodded at the handsome attendant, and walked into this money-squandering establishment. Nobody paid attention to her for a while. She scanned the room and quickly found Yi Pei.

She didn’t see the variegation of her imagination. The dazzlingly lit interior made her head spin.

Yi Pei was playing cards.

This was the first time she saw this side of Yi Pei. Maybe because Yi Pei’s temperament was too noble, it was hard for her to imagine him at a noisy and lively place. Yi Pei was better suited to busily negotiating a contract either in his office, in the conference room, or in the VIP lounge at the airport while waiting for his flight.

Yi Pei looked up, probably knowing that she came in. He gave her a glance. He was joking with someone at the table the previous moment, to the extent that when he looked at her, the bright smile on his face had not yet dissipated. With a half smile on his face, in addition to the effect of the lighting, Yi Pei indeed appeared to be a son of an influential family.

She thought about the first time she saw him. He also looked like this, with elegant brows and black pupils, and seemed to appear very young. Embarrassingly, sometimes her impression of Yi Pei was frozen on his future self: a plump, generous, noble, and successful man.

Yi Pei looked away and ignored her. He continued playing cards.

Ai, how impolite. Shi Jian turned and the polite attendant told her: “President Yi will leave after this round, why don’t you take a seat?” As he finished speaking, he even moved to help her take off her jacket.

That couldn’t happen; she was only wearing a sexy blouse inside. She hurriedly refused, “I will wait outside. May I trouble you to notify President Yi?”

The attendant nodded.

It was too hot inside. Shi Jian felt her burning hot ears. Zhang Kai wasn’t here, so there were a lot of things she had to do. Yi Pei had unexpectedly made her become the chauffeur. She had driven him once before, but she didn’t expect him to trust her driving skills and disregard the fact that she didn’t have a driver’s license.

……

Shi Jian pensively went downstairs. Jia Shi Platinum was indeed a bit abnormal. The first floor didn’t have that banal gold gilding over everything. On the contrary, a respectably tasteful concert hall was erected. The soothing piano piece was like a gurgling brook flowing out from the inside.

A man in a suit stood off to the side, with a bouquet in his hands. He appeared to be waiting for something. This felt familiar to Shi Jian, and she looked at him again. It turned out to be one of the men from the Yi family she’d seen when she was at the Yi Mao Apparel flagship store, Yi Qindong.

“What do you think? She looks better in real life, right? Her personality is enchanting.”  Gao Yanfei and Ye Jiacheng sat on a front row sofa in the Jia Shi Platinum concert hall. Gao Yanfei spoke as if he was marketing a product, and specifically exaggerated, “She’s practically an angel.”

Practically an angel? Ye Jiacheng laughed, leaning against the sofa with his legs lazily crossed. He lifted his chin, not really paying attention to Gao Yanfei’s words. He was aware of Gao Yanfei’s plan; only, he didn’t want to speak. But, this girl named He Xin was indeed prettier in person. Her personality was elegant, but all girls who played the piano had this trait.

“Even though He Xin plays the piano here, she grew out of the mud pure.” Gao Yanfei brought up another point, guiding him to look in whatever direction. He continued: “Yi Qindong has been pursuing her for two months already, bringing her flowers everyday regardless of the weather. He spent money to buy her some popularity, and yet He Xin remains unmoved.”

Ye Jiacheng tilted his head. Sure enough, he spotted Yi Qindong not far away. He recognized Yi Qindong; they could be considered acquaintances. When Yi Qindong meddled with Yi Mao Real Estate, he sought Ye Jiacheng out. He’d wanted to recruit him for some work, but couldn’t bear to pay his starting price. Dilly-dallying gave people a bad impression. When he heard news of Yi Qindong again, Yi Qindong had already been humiliatingly kicked out of Yi Mao Real Estate by his sister’s son, Yi Pei.

Unexpectedly, he had encountered Yi Qingdong again at this place. Yi Qindong wore a checkered dress shirt and a bowtie. He had a large bouquet of roses in his hands. He truly looked ridiculous.

Ye Jiacheng couldn’t help it. He curved the corner of his lips, and lightly laughed.

Not far away, a man was laughing. His laughter was excessively dazzling, and attracted many eyes. When the piece ended, Shi Jian blinked. The lights coming on from all directions blinded her. She wasn’t mistaken. The man with the attractive laughter was Ye Jiacheng.

Ye Jiacheng stood up, limpid and elegant. He walked directly up beside the triangular piano, then stooped down to say a few words to the pianist.

But, the smiling eyes nearly matched the pianist’s eyebrows.

Shi Jian sucked in a breath. Breathing was not easy anymore. By then, Ye Jiacheng had already sat down. His fingers settled on the black and white keys and he started to play.

His technique and posture were practiced, comparable to a professional pianist.

Shi Jian had always known that Ye Jiacheng played the piano very well. The clever Mr.Ye had a wide range of interests, as if he could learn anything well as long as he wanted to.

He played half of «Les Premiers Sourires de Vanessa». For the second half, he invited He Xin.

Four hands playing together.

He Xin agreed. She tidied her skirt and sat beside him. Ye Jiacheng internally shook his head. Was this kind of woman hard to pursue? It was just that Yi Qindong’s IQ was subpar, and his EQ was also inferior. He and He Xin played the remaining half together.

But, He Xin didn’t play as well as she did originally, losing the flow of her natural style. She could just remain steady.

Oh, she was probably nervous.

Intentionally, he increased the tempo. To sync with him, she also increased her tempo. Then, they played more and more rapidly, until her ring finger accidentally grazed the back of his hand softly. A “dong” rang out. It was a distinct incorrect note.

This pianist was merely at this level…… Ye Jiacheng smiled. He Xin became more and more nervous. He could practically hear her nearly erratic heartbeat, following the beautiful notes of the piano piece with a tap tap tap, tap tap tap……

Somewhat interesting! Ye Jiacheng turned his head and looked in Yi Qindong’s direction. See? Women should be pursued like this, not——

The sounds of the piano slowly halted. Ye Jiacheng saw Shi Jian standing not far away. She wore a light pink down-stuffed jacket, paired with jeans and short ankle boots. Her gentle shoulder length black hair curled slightly inwards. Her hairstyle was delicate and refined like a woman, her brows sharp like a young lady.

What a coincidence, little fox.

The little fox’s ears were tinted red. Her eyes were also red, with a fixed gaze, filled with rage. She blinked her long eyelashes at him.

How did they encounter each other again?

Oh, she was here to seduce him again.

To disrupt his cultivation.

Author’s Note:

Don’t laugh, Ye Jiacheng really does have half a month of cultivation.

I will be pushing the upload time 3 hours later to 3:00 pm PST (UTC-8) from now on. Chapter updates will still be on Tuesdays and Fridays. Thank you all for the continuous support! Including you, the silent reader!

Xiao Jiujiu: Chinese pronunciation for 小舅舅 - Little uncle on mother’s side.
2 The raw uses 她们(them, but female; a group of females) here, but 她(she) is pronounced the same as 他(he) when spoken aloud. There is no word in english for a female them, so it is just “them”. Feels like we went full circle; confusing, huh. I wonder if this madam meant spending the money would be bad for the men or for the women. (Or maybe I'm just reading too much into this.)
