See You Again (Time Already Knows) - Chapter 4
Chapter 4 - She Woke From Her Nightmare, Only Wishing To Return To Her Lover’s Side
If, if she and Jiacheng had wanted children earlier, would their little one be able to see the world, and grow up healthily under her and Jiacheng’s care?
When JIacheng had proposed to her, she told him, she may not be able to have children in the future.
Jiacheng had smiled and said, “Coincidentally, I’m too busy working, so I never married.”
Then Jiacheng proceeded to don that mask for two years, pretending that he didn’t like children a single bit.
Later, she became pregnant after all. She wanted a child that belonged to her and Jiacheng both.
Unsurprisingly, she felt Jiacheng’s temper for the first time on that day. He’d cried in front of her late at night, begging her not to risk it, to abort the baby……
As the elders say, this world cannot be 100% beautiful and 100% whole, at the most, it is 100% whole and 90% beautiful.1
The smell of cooking drifting from the Yang household assailed her nostrils.
To divert uncle Yang JIantao’s anger, Shi JIan latched onto Nini, Auntie’s daughter, as soon as she arrived. They sat on the sofa, her unceasingly making Nini laugh. Nini was the apple in Yang Jiantao’s eye, his love for her reached 100% on the love index. If even Auntie couldn't save her tonight, only having Nini in her arms could.
She clutched Nini tightly. Even if Yang Jiantao looked at her with fury in his eyes, he would not dare to harangue her in front of Nini.
Yang Jiantao wasn't a traditional gentleman, but he was good to his wife and kid, and her as well. He wasn't highly educated, but stock speculation turned him from a businessman into a rich man. But unbeknownst to him, the illegal subcontract signed by him a while ago would land him five years in prison.
Right now, Nini was only three, hanging onto her with soft arms and legs. She had looked forward to watching Nini grow into a young woman, but alas! She returned to being a toddler!
She reached out to pinch Nini’s nose, “Come, biaojie2 will help you grow taller.”
The slightly taller Nini already had an idea of what beauty was, always complaining that her nose bridge wasn’t tall enough. Little girls who loved beauty will eventually have little displeasures about their image.
Nini grinned at her, and imitated her pinching her nose.
Auntie called her over to eat, and seeing that she kept holding onto Nini, tenderly said, “You’ve held her as soon as you got here today, aren’t you tired?”
Yes, but Nini was her get out of jail card right now.
Yang Jiantao was still furious, but still let her eat dinner without interruption, until the table was cleared and Nini was taken away by the nanny. Yang Jiantao said to her and Auntie, “Yesterday I received a notice. The Gelan City Project was temporarily halted by the Yi family’s people.”
Shi Jian lowered her head and observed the lines on the dining table intently, her heart releasing a breath. The project was stopped, does that mean the horrific construction accident at the end of the year has been avoided?
She was relieved, but Yang Jiantao became even more livid.
Auntie didn’t take it too seriously, and said, “They stopped it so it will stop. Don’t talk about work right after dinner, what good is it to tell Shi-er3 and I?”
“That’s a billion dollar project!” Yang Jiantao said resentfully, “It would’ve earned enough for our family’s expenses for a lifetime.”
Auntie replied, “A billion is a billion, right now our family doesn’t have money issues to worry about. The most important thing is to live a happy life as a family…… Nini recently said she hasn’t seen daddy in a while.”
Yang Jiantao immediately became speechless, but he still glared at Auntie and fumed, “I can give up this billion dollar project, but do you know who was the one that sabotaged me?”
“Who?” Auntie smiled. She sat down, gentle as ever.
Shi Jian silently shifted her eyes, pretending to be invisible.
Yang Jiantao paused for two seconds, looked at her, then flatly said, “One with the surname Shi.”
The surname Shi…… Shi Jian nearly spat out blood, enduring the turbulent motions of her heart. She was the only one with the surname Shi here…… even if Auntie didn’t understand at first, she must have by now. She took the initiative to give him a small smile and frankly stated, “It’s me.”
Auntie knitted her brow, “…… Shi-er?”
Yang Jiantao looked at Auntie, “Fangya, tell me, what did I do to your family’s Miss Shi to deserve this, to have her painstakingly shut down my business? Not only did she steal my files, she also personally went to find Yi Mao’s Yi Pei! You say she, she……”
Yang Jiantao was so furious he couldn’t finish his sentence.
Shi Jian raised her head, trying to calm herself. Not wanting to butt heads, she took a sip of water to brace her throat and heart before explaining.
Yang Jiantao was about to smack the table and stand up.
She cleared her throat, and started stating, “I took a copy of the documents, and also went to find Yi Pei. But my intentions were purely for Uncle’s good. Last week I urged Uncle to not privately subcontract Yang Corp, but Uncle didn’t listen. I only went to Yi Pei as a last resort…… I hope Uncle can believe me.”
Shi Jian finished her straightforward statement with a sincere expression.
Yang Jiantao coldly sneered: Believe my ass!
“Oh. So it’s like that,” Auntie finally understood. She looked at Yang Jiantao steadily, “Alright, alright, the kid has already explained it clearly, there’s no problem anymore, right?”
Yang Jiantao smiled without anger, and sarcastically said, “So I must listen to what Ms.Shi says whenever I do anything…… ah?”
Shi Jian looked to the side, feeling that Yang Jiantao’s heart disease might act up, and said, “It really is for your own good.”
“For my own good? So my family has to thank you, is it?”
“Yang Jiantao!” said Auntie, suddenly angry.
The tender woman immediately overshadowed the irritable Director Yang as soon as she lost her temper. Auntie said, “You can’t accuse our Shi Jian indiscriminately like this. Is it that Shi Jian specially went against you for no reason?”
Yes, Shi Jian nodded at Auntie’s words.
“Of course there is a reason!” Yang Jiantao looked at her coldly, “She probably wants to fuck Yi Pei, what other reason is there?”
Shi Jian incredulously lifted her eyes, what the hell?
Yang Jiantao said to Auntie with even more certainty, “The men in the Yi family are all foxes, looks like she’s already been deceived to no end.”
Shi Jian: “……”
So the Yi men are all coquettes.
Shi Jian listened to her MP4 on the terrace, thinking about the “coquettish” Yi Pei, the ungrateful fox.
She decided to sleep over at Auntie’s house tonight. Yang Jiantao finished having his temper tantrum, his anger subsided, moreover, he also believed with certainty that she liked Yi Pei. Her “doing” now had an explanation.

Yang Jiantao wasn't a good person, but he was a good man. He loved Auntie, so he loved everything related to her as well. She remembered that when she was little, he came to parent teacher conferences for her. He looked mature, so her classmates all misunderstood he was her dad. Everytime they came back, he would flaunt to Auntie, “If I really had a gorgeous daughter like her, then it would be great.”
Then they had Nini.
Nini was adopted. Auntie couldn’t conceive a child.
Bright laughter drifted from downstairs, where Yang Jiantao was playing with Nini. The door opened. Shi Jian took out her earbuds, turning to look at Auntie, who came in holding a bowl of dessert. Auntie asked, “Listening to music?”
Shi Jian stood up and nodded.
Auntie smiled at her, “Did Jiantao scare you today?”
She shook her head, then apologized, “Sorry, Auntie.”
“No need for apologies.” Auntie pulled her back to her seat. “You did correctly. Money making is trivial. The stopping of an unauthorized project is a very good thing.”
Shi Jian lifted the corner of her mouth, smiling. She knew, not only was her auntie tender, she was also kind and had principles. She leaned on her auntie a bit shamelessly, feeling good.
There was no moon in the sky tonight, the swath of trees rose tall. Their branches swayed in the wind, leaving a rustle that disturbed the core. She didn't know why, but she felt like she’d been lonely for a long time.
Auntie inquired about her upcoming exam and going out of the country. She shook her head. If she used her previous life to reason, she didn't want to repeat the material she’d already studied. Going out of the country eventually lead to coming back anyway, so she would rather just stay in the country, and at Yi Mao.
“I plan to keep working at Yi Mao.” She told her auntie.
Auntie didn’t reply. Shi Jian looked over at her, not knowing where the problem was.
Then––
“Shi JIan…… quickly, tell auntie, do you actually like Yi Pei?” Auntie asked, worrying about her, but also unable to hide her mirthful expression.
What. She thought about Ye Jiacheng, and annoyedly let out a sigh. How could she like someone like that capitalist Yi Pei. She stood up, leaned on the railing, turned around– her pitch-black, alluring pupils softly rolled in a semicircle. Her brow lifted, she nimbly and gracefully leaned over, casually smoothed her windblown dark hair, and replied to Auntie’s inquiry, “I do like someone, but–––– it’s not Yi Pei.”
The one she liked, was the one she liked.
At the intern training class, the unexpected ending of Director Yang's speech was: “A willful man will have his way. Do not retreat! Being hardworking and uncompromising will pay off, you can do it, comrades!”
Lai Qiao secretly denounced his speech and personality as being too rigid, but Shi Jian thought it made a lot of sense. Taking advantage of her lunch break, Shi Jian finally contacted the one she liked……’s crony, classmate Gao Yanfei.
The call finally went through on the third try.
All in all, her relationship with Gao Yanfei was quite close, and even though she was speaking on the phone, their conversation’s tone inadvertently sounded like two old friends chatting. As soon as the call connected, she softly lamented, “Gao Yanfei, you finally answered my phone call.”
Shi Jian didn’t expect Gao Yanfei to hang up on her three times; in her memory, it was she who would always hang up his calls.
Recently after she and Ye Jiacheng married, Gao Yanfei couldn’t accept the boredom that came with his position of being a best friend who’d been tossed aside, and would call Ye Jiacheng practically everyday, asking him to play basketball, to entertain him. Everytime Jiacheng didn't pick up, he would then call Shi Jian’s phone.
Gao Yanfei chuckled at her lament, and spoke with a relaxed tone, “Lady Shi, I must explain something to you, I’ve spent all day today tes–– ting.”
“Testing?” Shi Jian thought it was a possibility. She knew, Gao Yanfei was a postgraduate student at B University.
“Correct!” It was Gao Yanfei’s turn to lament, “Do you know how many lies I needed to tell to get my phone back from the proctor?”
Shi Jian almost wanted to laugh, “Who in their right mind let you bring your cellphone to an exam?”
Gao Yanfei had a personality that couldn’t be knocked down, so he didn’t understand her jest. He refuted, “Do you know how I got my phone back?”
Shi Jian didn’t know, but to humor him so that she could get Ye Jiacheng’s number from him, she asked, “How?”
Gao Yanfei snickered, “I told the proctor that you were my girlfriend, and that if I didn’t pick up your call, you’d break up with me, destroying a lovely relationship.”
Shi Jian let out a laugh.
At this, Gao Yanfei finally became serious, “Alright, what do you want?”
Shi Jian tersely asked, “Where does Jiacheng live right now, and what is his phone number? He……” As she carefully thought about it, she regretted her actions. How come she didn’t investigate Jiacheng’s past before they were together? She knew less about his past than Yi Pei’s.
After all, she'd spent 29.8 yuan on Zhao Yilin’s «The Mr.Yi In My Eyes», read the content, and then read a more official biography about Yi Pei.
She turned her head and looked elsewhere. Not far away, Zhao Yilin, the author of «The Mr.Yi In My Eyes», had once again run over to someone for guidance. Her small steps and energetic smile made her appear modest and hard working.
“Jia–– cheng?” Gao Yanfei’s voice over the phone brought back her attention, uncontrollably saying, “Lady Shi, I really didn’t take you as a person who treats their new friends like old friends.”
Shi Jian was silent for a moment, “……”
Was she really like that? She doesn’t think so…… Jiacheng was clearly familiar to her as her spouse, and Gao Yanfei as a friend, but they both don't remember her anymore. Gao Yanfei’s words hit her like a truck. Shi Jian felt a little melancholy, her mood dropping quite a bit.
If her memory wasn’t so distinct and vivid, she would rather think of it all as a grand dream. She just dreamed for a long time, of her fortunately passing her postgraduate program exam and then going out of the country, of Ye Jiacheng bringing her to the edge of the city where they launched fireworks all night. At the end of the dream, she excitedly flew to Japan, hoping to bring a huge surprise to the Mr.Ye busily working in Osaka……
The doctor said she could finally have children. Afterwards, she slept in the plane, all the way until their high speed descent.
She woke from her nightmare, only wishing to return to her lover’s side.
Only, if it really was just a dream, why did it leave so many scars in her heart, not allowing her to escape?
Gao Yanfei seemed as though his heart couldn’t bear it, and patiently tried to persuade her, “Ye Jiacheng, that boy, he looks like a person, but has many things in common with a dog. Are you really sincere about him? I’ll be honest with you, Ye Jiacheng recently has been only working outside the country; the only reason he came back this time is to see Song Xiaojing, so you–– are–– out–– of–– luck!”
At this last sentence, Gao Yanfei’s voice fluctuated, feeling like it had some indescribable emotion in it.
Fucking hell! Shi Jian’s lips twisted into a frown, her eyes nearly glowed red.
Strangely, when she was dating Jiacheng, she knew he had a couple girlfriends before. She hadn’t believed it, and even felt arrogant, because she was the winner in the end.
The previous ones were nothing, only worth a glance.
But love was strange, the same situation but different timing gave rise to a completely different feeling. She just wasn't willing to think, that all of the ones worth only a glance, could have become splendid clouds in the sky.
Even though the situation was like this, she still lifted her chin, and forced her words out, “Are you busy tonight? Why don’t you bring Jiacheng out to dinner? How’s that?”
Gao Yanfei was silent, as if a cat caught his tongue.
She asked again, “…… Gao Yanfei?”
“I really convinced you!” Gao Yanfei sucked in a breath, then briskly finished, “Ye Jiacheng flies to New York tomorrow at 8 P.M., I reckon Xiaojing and I both don’t have time to see him to the airport.”
She was delighted. “–––– thanks!”
Author’s Note:
This is a romantic story, ~ a very honest romantic story~. The female lead’s previous life was nearly perfect; this story is not about a loser relying on rebirth to become a winner in life. I haven’t read much about rebirth, but I know a lot of it is about becoming a perfect person after being reborn, getting revenge and the like.
«See You Again» is not that kind of story~ I think that success is often dependent on one’s ability to seize the opportunity to combine strength and perseverance; if one is a procrastinator, then even being reborn multiple times would be useless to them~
Emphasizing again, «See You Again» is a very honest romantic story~ of course there will be other content added in as well.
Its really heartbreaking for Shi Jian. Thankyou translator!!!!
